It's not as simple as don't play it when the time, money, and effort that developers are putting into tacked-on gimmicks would be better spent elsewhere. Epic might not be tacking it on but other developers are.

I'm not getting how what you just said makes it "not that simple".

Still seems pretty simple. I don't have a Kinect and I don't plan on getting one and I don't see any issues with playing my Xbox anytime in the near future.

Maybe it's just me but I get the impression that the Wii U will have an even larger amount of shovelware in a much quicker span of time compared to the Wii which will ultimately put them right back in this same situation.

Third party support will dry up because it cannot be taken serious and M-rated games will become non-existent as the user base will be sucked in to titles about

a family-focused sports compilation.

Admit it, how many people do you know bought a Wii and only played Wii Fit or Wii Resort?

I agree. It is not not simple when you really hate lots of new releases.

I can see the Wii U doing quite well as long as the price isn't out of range of the competition. It looks like they made it to be truly compatible with multi-platform games; but with enough unique features and gimmicks to justify another purchase.

The new zapper with a mount for the controller/tablet is my favorite of the ideas they showed off. That's just begging for Konami to make another Silent Scope game.

So what Nintendo got an Ipad for an xa controller and a blue ray player for their next console? And they still manage to call that revolution? lol.... And dont even get me started on the name Wii U, seriously?!

The only thing that will save this thing beyond the usual Nintendo hardcore fans is the price. It needs to be priced around current consoles, if they try any 500$ crap they are so gonna fail.

Imo this years E3 is a huge fail on consoles. Lucky me I got Diablo 3, BF3 and SC2 and SW MMO to entertain me until next year.

*Puts hand up*

To be honest, I always figured it was because the software houses couldn't really think outside the box.

For years we've had just about the same way to play everything. Minor cosmetic differences from one gamepad to the next would pretty much be the only difference. Whether or not it made them lazy or complacent, who can say, but now, all companies like Activision, EA and Ubisoft know how to do is make the one title and just port it across.

That's why the only titles worth buying on the Wii are Nintendo ones, because they were tailoring games to get the most out of the unique hardware. Companies like Activision don't give a shit about not being taken seriously, they only give a shit about making money. End of story.

As per the usual, Nintendo will do cool things with the Wii-U, but only Nintendo. That said, I don't see them making nearly as much money this time around because they're obviously not catering to the simple casual market. At its core, it's a 1080p Wii with an extra portable screen, and that's not going to be nearly enough for most.

All I could think was, holy shit replacing/getting a second controller is going to suck bad. But then I'm a cheap bastard that refuses to get a rumble ps3 controller because it costs so much.

NOT blu-ray, read it, it says PROPRIETARY.
Possibly so people can't easily burn copies to play. But if its not blu-ray compatible they are going to miss out compared to ps3. Plus proprietary HD optical disk just screams expensive, both in the disks and in the reader.

I suppose its possible they are going to use normal blu-ray and just put a custom filesystem on it. That would be the least expensive way to go, and they could still offer blu ray movie playback in that case. But they are emphasizing proprietary for some reason so who knows.

My guess would be proprietary like the gamecube. That never played movies - and the software didn't cost more.

I don't see the missing out compared to the ps3 - most people have blu-ray players now anyway.

None.
However, swap out Wii Resort with Wii Sports and add Mario Kart, Smash Brothers, Boom Blox, Mario Galaxy, Wario Ware, Mario Strikers, Guitar Hero and New Super Mario Brothers and you're correct.

In fairness the only person I know that played all of those is me, but everyone I know played at least 3. And, typically, no more than that 3. Worth noting that only 2 of them are third party, and only 2 don't have Mario...

I definitely dont like the idea of having to look up and down repeatedly from the handheld screen to the TV. I would really rather have the interface on the screen. Basically its a gimmick.

Yeah this is probably a massive chunk of consumers. The sales of Wii Fit(before being packed in) is staggering when you examine it versus third party activity on that platform.

If they'd announce a new Okami game for Wii U I'd be on board right away.
