Call me disappointed. Did not expect this game to turn into a hack action romp.

The trailers fooled me into thinking this would be a more mature suspenseful, clever, survival-ish type game.

Oh well, long live the dumb button mashing.

This game still looks like it could be fun, in spite of the huge let down from the previous Axis Animation trailer that I fell in love with.

However it seems like it's just a hodge-podge of games at this point, instead of an attempt at something unique. It already feels like a huge missed opportunity. What a shame.

I wonder if the publishers or the extremely long development time are to blame for the apparent lack of focus towards 'realism' or arcade-y gameplay.

Well, I thought it looked like garbage, but then again - it is on a console not a PC....something to keep in mind....

The gameplay isn't going to change betweeen console and PC. PC will look and run better but that's about it.

In any case, this looks like a straight-up FPS version of Dead Rising.

- Open-world? Check.
- Melee-focused combat? Check.
- XP for killing zombies, which can then be used to get new moves to make killing zombies easier? Check.
- Upgradeable weapons? Check.
- Optional survivor rescuing? Check.

Reminds me not just of Far Cry 2 but also Fallout 3 and L4D2, but the actual gameplay is more like Fallout 3. I like the idea of minimizing the firearms but would also like a game mode where there are lots of them. If the game is modable, that will be lots of fun to see what is done with it.

Yup, count me in for this one. Zombies + FPS + RPG = WINNING!

I have mixed feelings.

The idea of an open world zombie game with crafting, survival, and CoOp to it sounds really cool. The melee also looks fantastic.

However after watching the video some crucial areas come to mind. The animation for the player doesn't match the quality of the animations for the zombies, it looks cheesy and yeah like others have said, Jurassic Park: Trespasser. The truck bugs me... it doesn't match the art quality of the other "crashed" vehicles, also is this going to be the only drivable vehicle? If it is will it be craftable to improve it into a zombie killing machine? The floaty damage numbers and names over everything also put me off. What's the point of building an immersive virtual world if you take people out of it by that? I hate it when MMOs do it and FPS games should never do it. Also the scope of the project calls a lot of doubt into question.

I hope they have time to improve the problem areas. I think the zombie genre will be better for this game doing well.

I'd still like a Left4Dead sequel that incorporated building elements ala Garry's Mod.

Companies that still do their own CG work in house, like Blizzard and Capcom, are rare at this point.

Count Epic and Valve there, too.

A shame. Valve is pretty much unmatched for random cinematics, Blizzard for in-and-around game, and Epic hit a high note with that Gears of War trailer with the Donnie Darko song.

Ugh looks shitty and boring. Oh well, so much for that. Guess they should stick to making trailers instead, at least they're good at that.

It was a freelance Scottish animation studio that made the trailer. They have also done intros and trailers for EA, Microsoft, Sony, Activision, Bethesda, Disney. Companies that still do their own CG work in house, like Blizzard and Capcom, are rare at this point.

looks like "Left for Dead the RPG", I was REALLY interested in this game when they first announced it 5 years ago, back then they wanted to do a melee focused game with Romero/Brooks zombies (ie. they don't run).

HUGE disappointment. Obviously the trailer designers had a completely different game in mind.

I too saw the tresspasser resemblance and the borderlands numbers is just FUCKING STUPID!

Oh well, game just seems ok now, very arcadey and gimmicky. Needed to choose an audience and go rather than try and cater to all.

I believe it is running off of Chrome Engine 5 which is also used in the new Call of Juarez title.

Yup, you are correct. From what I could find as well, it is the Chrome 5 engine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Island

Curious if actuall game will be any good. Time will tell.....

I get a feeling something for the Left4Dead franchise is around the corner too; or an announcment of such. ;^)

Will I be able to disable to stupid floating number crap that they borrowed from Borderlands? I really don't need to know how much damage I'm inflicting as the end result will always be the same. Shoot it/beat it/hack it until it stops moving.

Probably, with some console command switch.
