IGN sells Driect2Drive to GameFly?

I wish GameFly would be sold to Netflix. Maybe it would suck less.

I bailed from Impulse when it was sold to Gamestop
I'm with you on that. I want to buy Space Pirates and Zombies, but I don't want to do anything to support GameStop. The only games I have through Impulse are Stardock-published games and DA:O.

I bet everything that D2D games still work. If not this will hurt Valve the most as it will send a huge wave across the landscape.

I bailed from Impulse when it was sold to Gamestop, and I've been slowly duplicating what games I did purchase through Impulse as sales come along. Fortunately my Impulse library isn't very large.

The only games I've purchased through D2D have been Steamworks games (and a couple of ancient Fileplanet freebies), so I don't have any worries on this count. I also don't hate GameFly, which helps.

I was wondering if this was going to happen. Especially after IGN opened up their PC store. Your account and purchases show up on D2D and the IGN PC store, so I'm wondering if they're basically selling the name. It'll be interesting to see what comes of this
I'm curious too since I purchased games from both.

I wonder what will happen with games that were purchased on D2D? Will they be safe, or should I go shopping for blank DVDs so I can download and back them up?

Plus you know that Gamefly just bought Direct2Drive so that they can immediately shut it down and twirl their villain mustaches.
Same goes for Impulse and GameStop. The IGN writer is a moron.

I love this quote:

With the sale of Direct2Drive, only two digital distribution platforms for PC games remains: Steam and GamersGate.

Well researched IGN, great journalistic quality as always. Let's just ignore Amazon.com, GOG, Beamdog, GreenManGaming, all of the publisher based stores and the others I'm probably forgetting. Plus you know that Gamefly just bought Direct2Drive so that they can immediately shut it down and twirl their villain mustaches.

First Impulse, now Direct2Drive. I wonder if this stuff gives anyone pause about tying all their game purchases to a single company's whims.
