Portal 2 Watch

According to GLaDOS@Home, calculations are complete for two of the 13 games, as players look to trigger an early release of Portal 2. Both The Wonderful End of the World and 1... 2... 3... Kick It are complete, and a Dejobaan triple-play looms, as it looks likely that AaAaAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity will be next.

At this rate, it looks like the earliest the release could be is Monday. Valve really should have started this last weekend.

Classic piece of stupid marketing.

Early is early. It's not like they had to do this at all. It's an amusing little promotion that you can safely ignore if it ruffles your feathers that much princess.

Oh come on, worst case scenario the game releases on the release date. Costs nothing.

Alternately, some people get some exposure to games they might not have played and, as we can see already, the game comes out sooner.

This is voluntary and works to promote indy games, wow, how terrible, a company with a large amount of marketing power supporting indy titles rather than, say for example, making people play AAA listed or orange box games to promote an earlier unlock.

Yeah, judging by some of the comments, I think it backfired a bit. But they don't care. They already have everyone's money.

You can always ignore the early release and wait until the original Tuesday release date to play the game. I will be out of town Tuesday and Wednesday, so I'll gladly take those 24 hours to get a little taste of the game before I leave.

If they REALLY wanted to make this work they should had offered those game on a 'free weekend' sorta thing during this promotion.

It would have given those games exposure and sales AND worked well for Portal 2.

You can always cancel your preorder if Valve doing a promotion to help indie developers bothers you that much, it's an easy process through Steam support.

*crickets*

That's what I thought.

That would have strained the servers too much, they were already having problems last night as it is. Friends was down for awhile today too.

That's ok! Steam customers get to play a bunch of games they normally wouldn't give a fuck about! And not because they actually want to play them. Whoo hoo!

I actually bought the package just because I thought it was a good deal and I had very few duplicates. Didn't even know it was for the ARG at first because I hadn't caught up with it for a while.

It is a good deal, there's some great games in there. The Ball especially is very underrated. Defense Grid is a fantastic little game and Audiosurf is ridiculously addictive.

Save just giving the game away for free, there seems to just be no pleasing some people. No one's forced to buy the indie bundle and if it manages to unlock Portal 2 early, everyone will get it early as far as I understand. So if you don't want to contribute, don't. You'll still get all the benefits and can be happy that you didn't have to spend anything on a bunch of potentially great indie games. Just keep that in mind the next time you complain about how the AAA industry treats gamers and how there's no innovation happening anymore.

Well, I had 3 of the games, and bought 2 more of the games that had been on my list. I would like to pick up Super Meat Boy, but it is still more expensive than i would spend on a title of that nature.

I have played all 5 of the games I now own in the sack, and must say I enjoyed playing them, and will go back to them and play them some more.

So who cares really. Either play the "game" or don't. We will all soon be playing Portal 2. I don't see why the criticism of their marketing campaign. They are expsoing people to games they wouldn't normally play. Made money for some indie's etc. Even if only 10% of the people go back and play those games, at least they have played them.

And holy cripes But Trip Beat is hard! Addicting as hell.

Nobody is complaining about the idea behind the marketing. I think it's a great idea that helps promote both the indies and Portal 2 at the same time. However, the timing of this part of the campaign was poorly thought out. Starting it this close to release means that Portal 2 will only be unlocked a day early and on a workday too. If they had started this last weekend, it would have potentially been unlocked much earlier. Therefore, more people would have been compelled to buy and/or play the indie games involved because the reward would have been more significant.

Again, not a criticism of the idea. Just a criticism of its implementation.
