Portal 2 Early?

The core concept behind Portal involves bending the space/time continuum, but is Aperture Laboratories actually capable of reversing Valve Time? Possibly, as Kotaku points to clues from the Valve PotatoFoolsDay ARG suggesting Portal 2 may be released on Friday, rather than next week (thanks nin). On a semi-related note, Portal 2 pre-loads are now available through Steam. Also, on the topic of Valve Time, Brad Wardell tells IndustryGamers he thinks operating Steam is contributing to delays of Valve's internally developed games, saying: "you look at before Steam and after Steam, it's definitely had an effect." Of course Half-Life, the poster child for Valve Time, was released years before Steam was a gleam in Valve's eye, but he's entitled to his opinion. Finally, there's more on this ARG on the Dejobaan Website (where they offer this mash-up) and the Lazy 8 Website.

Well, its not a definite yet.

I hope the early access isn't JUST for potato sack buyers, as I wasn't planning on that at all...

But playing portal 2 this weekend? Let's just say Friday will be the longest day at work in awhile, if this is all true.

Well I pre-ordered the PS3 version so hopefully that'll come early too so I can play my free PC version sooner. The bad thing is I can't pre-load right now.

No Brad, they just finish their games before they try to sell them. Stop projecting. Now we know the reason he ditched Impulse...

Can't help but notice that anti-Valve time is already in effect. Game is now listed to release on April 19, when it was going to be released on the 21st up until today...

So Brad, was your job of maintaining Impulse responsible for the horrible launch day condition of Elemental?

Well, now that you sold it I guess you won't release garbage again, right?

It's fucking hilarious that Brad can say that Steam has affected Valve's release schedule.

It's not even a matter of him being "entitled to his opinion". It's just factually wrong what he says about before Steam was out, and since Steam has been released.

Dammit got to wait for the PS3 version too - I promised I'd play it coop with one of my girls (the first one is one of a very few games she's completed). Still at least when it turns out it will unlock my PC version too :S

I hexedited a picture from http://valvearg.com/wiki/Valve_PotatoFoolsDay_ARG_Wiki and in the middle of the hex I found this 2011:04:12 17:28:14.2011:04:12 17:28:1 which oddly is todays date perhaps the date of the preload and the name I.c.h.i.r.o who seems to be the fag who added it.

If Valve opens it early only to the potato fuckers, then you can just throw Valve into the same shitty marketing schemes realm that GOG now inhabits.

It has always been the 19th. The 21st is a Thursday; games are always released on a Tuesday.

I have to agree. While it's great that some indie games are getting attention, allowing only people who paid an extra $38 early access doesn't sound like a great plan.

I already own 5-6 of the games in that pack, hence why I don't really have any desire to buy it. A couple I don't have look neat, but not $38 neat.

I'm still slightly annoyed that preordering is only a 10% discount, as I usually refuse to preorder for anything less than a $20 discount (and even then it's happened like twice.)

But screw it. Between it being Valve, being Portal, and the absolutely amazing video campaign I'm sold. I'm preordering a game for what is essentially full price without anyone I trust having played it.

Well played, Valve.
