Portal 2 Early?

The core concept behind Portal involves bending the space/time continuum, but is Aperture Laboratories actually capable of reversing Valve Time? Possibly, as Kotaku points to clues from the Valve PotatoFoolsDay ARG suggesting Portal 2 may be released on Friday, rather than next week (thanks nin). On a semi-related note, Portal 2 pre-loads are now available through Steam. Also, on the topic of Valve Time, Brad Wardell tells IndustryGamers he thinks operating Steam is contributing to delays of Valve's internally developed games, saying: "you look at before Steam and after Steam, it's definitely had an effect." Of course Half-Life, the poster child for Valve Time, was released years before Steam was a gleam in Valve's eye, but he's entitled to his opinion. Finally, there's more on this ARG on the Dejobaan Website (where they offer this mash-up) and the Lazy 8 Website.

I purchased the PS3 version. Why? Because it's $20 off was better than Steam's 10% off.

However, I do not own a PS3 so I will not be able to link accounts and therefore will not be able to play P2 on my PC until E3 when I buy a PS3 because the price drops to $200 (couldn't find a way to abbreviate that one, sorry all.)

Wouldn't it be better for your friends to buy it on PC? That way, everyone can play the best version of the game. There will probably be community co-op maps as well in the future.

Wasn't this also the game that was buy a ps3 copy and get a pc copy for free?

Technically you're not getting the PC copy free. You're buying it on Steam and Steam is available on PC, Mac, and soon to be PS3, so you're getting it across the board. The one thing I haven't heard is if you can get access to Steam(and thus Portal 2 and other future PS3 Steam games) on PS3 without buying the game in the first place. I imagine you won't be able to because each game for a console requires a licensing fee to be paid to the console company(Sony/SCE in this case)

From the Wikipedia article and cited:

As part of the PlayStation 3 release, those who purchase the PlayStation 3 version of Portal 2 will also be able to unlock the game on the Steam platform for Windows and Mac OS X for free by linking their PlayStation Network and Steam accounts, and using a redeemable code within the PlayStation 3 packaging.[88][90]

So you need a code from the retail PS3 box.

9+ GB? WOAH!

The DA Ultimate edition form Steam clocks in at 25 gig, but I think it my case it only downloaded like 10-15 gig and then uncompressed the rest of the way.

Dang, I only have about 22 GB free. No way for DA Ultimate to do it.

Same here - I didn't have any other source engine games installed, so I wasn't sure if my download would be larger than others.

Only took about an hour and a half, very nice.

I don't think you can, no, because you have to link to your Steam account from within the game, IIRC.

Some of us don't have Windows PCs (or Macs), or rigs beefy enough to be suitable for gaming on... Unless Valve is also going to surprise anounce Linux steam and Portal 2, my only viable choice for playing is Xbox360... (Even then, I'm not sure my old Linux PC would be up to the challenge of handling a modern game like that, anyway... Its main use is as a workstation; I write Linux/Unix code for a living...)

Yeah, his PC is old and decrepit. I think the last PC gaming he did was Civ IV. Not Civ V, Civ IV. I'll just suck it up and use a damn controller.

Also kind of shitty to see Brad wiggle his way into this news. Embarrassing sort of.

I'm not sure what he's blathering about either. Valve obviously has a team dedicated to Steam and separate teams working on other projects. In the three and a half years since Orange Box was released, Valve has put out two full games and a ton of new content for TF2, as well as some content for L4D1/2. Their next full game is set to release within a week. Three multiplatform games + tons of free DLC in less than 4 years is pretty impressive for an independent developer.

Whatever credibility Wardell had left after Elemental is now completely gone after the sale of Impulse to GameStop.

I'm still slightly annoyed that preordering is only a 10% discount, as I usually refuse to preorder for anything less than a $20 discount (and even then it's happened like twice.)
You can get a 20% discount if you buy a 2-pack and split it with a friend, that is assuming you have (a) friend(s).

Uhh,
Already own one or more of the games in this pack? Not to worry, you can give your extra copy of any game in this pack to a friend.

Plus, if you buy this pack (or have all 13 of these games in your account) you get a potato hat in Team Fortress 2! (Potato hat available after April 5th) and a special skin in Portal 2 co-op.
