Treyarch's Hiring for CoD

The Treyarch Website lists some job openings, including a listing for Gameplay Combat Designers. They outline this position's duties, and part of this confirms that this is for a new Call of Duty game: "This position reports into the Design Director for the Call of Duty multiplayer team at Treyarch." Thanks VG247 via Gamerzines.

Wow, holy shit, there's a lot of hate in here.

That would be mostly down to the royal shafting Kotick et. al gave Infinity Ward. Treyarch are going to get some flack for :

a.) Riding on Infinfty Ward's coat-tails. They've got the engine, the franchise and everything else when IW were not happy about that arrangement and are now sans promised massive bonus and their jobs.

b.) They're kind of like scabs crossing a union picket line only game developers don't seem to have a union worth speaking of.

By 'proving' to Activision HQ that 'anybody' can develop a gazzilion selling CoD game, they're cementing the idea that game developers are not worth the sort of money that the now departed developers at IW rightfully claimed they were owed.

We'll see how long that strategy lasts as they milk CoD yet further and if the engine needs a major update or a rewrite for new hardware.

In the end, games do not create themselves. You need a team of people who know what they are doing to create them from the ground up. The likes of Kotick do not know how to create games - his kind, in all industries, are essentially worthless parasites. They are only strong so long as the likes of Treyarch cooperate. That is why Treyarch get so much stick, even though the company probably consists mostly of lots of talented, hard working and nice people.

That conflict has been a totally untapped resource so far.

How about Lorena Bobbit's vs the Ron Jememys.

I know, how about body armour that doubles your health (or health like thing) and a gun mod that doubles your damage?

Each for only $20!

Do I get the job?

Or quick time events in MP where the whole server stops and waits for you and the bad guy to mash buttons over weather you stop him form pushing the big red nuke button?

They need a design director for CoD just to copy and paste from the last CoD game? Derp.

So Basically you just trace. You're a tracer.

How about a script writer? The plots for MW2 and Black Ops have been just awful, with the ludicrous story lines detracting from the gameplay.

I'm amazed to read that there will be another CoD. I thought they'd have finished anyway.

Especially for MP, since it's literally exactly the same game. They even make you rebuy all the old maps.

It must be so satisfying for Treyarch to make the same fucking game every two years.
