Wow, holy shit, there's a lot of hate in here.
That would be mostly down to the royal shafting Kotick et. al gave Infinity Ward. Treyarch are going to get some flack for :
a.) Riding on Infinfty Ward's coat-tails. They've got the engine, the franchise and everything else when IW were not happy about that arrangement and are now sans promised massive bonus and
b.) They're kind of like scabs crossing a union picket line only game developers don't seem to have a union worth speaking of.
By 'proving' to Activision HQ that 'anybody' can develop a gazzilion selling CoD game, they're cementing the idea that game developers are not worth the sort of money that the now departed developers at IW rightfully claimed they were owed.
We'll see how long that strategy lasts as they milk CoD yet further and if the engine needs a major update or a rewrite for new hardware.
In the end, games do not create themselves. You need a team of people who know what they are doing to create them from the ground up. The likes of Kotick do not know how to create games - his kind, in all industries, are essentially worthless parasites. They are only strong so long as the likes of Treyarch cooperate. That is why Treyarch get so much stick, even though the company probably consists mostly of lots of talented, hard working and nice people.
