Op Ed

MCV - Can we benefit from piracy?
While major publishers shout loudest over their hypothetical losses, common sense suggests that smaller independent studios suffer most from the explosion of piracy. These companies have no cash cushions to fall back on, no assets to sell off, no enormous legal teams to deploy in their defence.

What’s more, they’re often dependent on the internet to publicise and distribute their products, neck-deep in the very medium that gives copyright infringers their power. But those vexing truths cut two ways: the indies are able to adapt swiftly to changing market conditions, and adopt strategies Activision or Ubisoft would deem unthinkable.

yesterday's broke-ass teens still think it's perfectly cromulent to steal games despite now having plenty of disposable income, and this is what bemuses me.

I don't know why you would expect pc gamers to treat you (pc game developers) any differently than you treat them. (pc gaming community)

This is like the pot calling the kettle black in my opinion. Pc gamers are impatient and don't play by the rules (ie pirate), pc game companies are greedy and sell shit in a box behind DRM designed to stop 2nd hand sales.

In case anyone else is as confused as I am by Tumbler quoting me and then saying "you ([developers])", I'm about as far from having anything to do with the video game industry as a person can get, except that I pay for the games I play.
