Crysis 2 Workarounds

The MyCrysis Forum points to a number of posts for users having specific problems with Crysis 2, Crytek's just-released first-person shooter sequel. This thread and this FAQ are for those having trouble entering their promotional code. This thread offers a workaround for those having trouble with Crysis 2 not remembering their multiplayer key or saying their key is in use, and this thread has another possible solution to the key in use error (a patch is in the works for this). This thread explains that EA is working on fixing a "temporary issue" preventing the game from saving players' multiplayer statistics and unlocks. Meanwhile, this thread explains why they removed auto-aim with their day one patch and this thread discusses a bug causing graphics flickering on multi-GPU systems, and this thread offers a possible solution for this for Crossfire configurations that involves renaming the game executable.

I'm having this one issue where my Nano-tech isn't saved and sometimes not collected. It kinda sucks.

Might have something to do with the pirated version that I used as a demo I'm still playing, while my original copy is in arm's reach. Should've reinstalled, maybe..
I thought Hollywood had hit rock buttom. Then this happened.

This was something the original Vietcong did really well. If you were careful with your noise and sightlines the AI would fire on where they thought you were, allowing flanking maneuvers. In fact the whole game was quite good about noise control being important - so much so that in the multiplayer the voice comms volume between players was used in determining if the AI had heard you. Speak in whispers and you could sneak around but you had to stay close. Yell and generally a large part of the enemy knew precisely where you were and headed for that spot.

This meant you could create kill zones by the other players taking cover and a point main going out and yelling before retreating back to cover. Meant the first wave could be wiped out fairly safely but of course once you fire then the focus shifts...

Anyhoo just an FYI.

I am not wasting 60 bucks and time if the game is buggy and expesnive to be sucky.

The only problem that I have seen is a full system crash. I was overclocking and Crysis 2 didn't care for that. I turned the OC's off and it hasn't crashed since. I haven't seen any bugs with the game though.
So far, the game is very cool. I was so sure that it was going to be crap, but I was totally wrong.

Actually what I do like about that visor mode is that it not only shows you suggested ways to work your way through an area it also shows you the dropped weapons so you can find ammo from fallen enemies easier. Pretty cool when you are running low on ammo. Something a little more critical when you play on higher difficulty settings and the ammo is a little more rare than on lower diff. settings.

Thanks for the screenshot, Krovven.

One thing I hope they add, is the option to turn off all the "tips", primarily the constant text popups, "press A to lean", "press Left Shift to grab". They are small and slightly intrusive, but I tune them out most of the time.

But... but... how would the console kiddies know what to press then?

I had an ok time with the singleplayer, if nothing else it was a nice break from the typical Call of Duty stuff we see all the time. It was a bit alarming to see some elements of that series in this game even tangentially though. The story is a bit gibberish and poorly explained but who plays these games for the story anyway. Game is gorgeous graphically with everything dialed up.

The multiplayer I'm just not seeing the appeal, its far too random and chaotic. In this respect it really was like playing any other modern shooter although I guess that was their entire goal. To be fair multiplayer has never been Crytek's strong suit and they made a much stronger effort here than in the past. Unfortunately I doubt this game will change many peoples minds or have the kind of legs that CoD games do. That one image making the rounds on forums comparing de_dust to skyline was pretty hilarious but spot on in showcasing how important firing angles and vectors are to map design.

One thing I was really impressed with was the AI firing for effect at where it thinks the player is. It was done very convincingly and its something I haven't seen in an unscripted manner in other games. Anyway I'd rate the game a 7/10 and caution people who are purchasing to try out the multiplayer demo first as the singleplayer campaign is fun but I'm not sure it was worth the $60 in retrospect.

that EA is working on fixing a "temporary issue" preventing the game from saving players' multiplayer statistics and unlocks

This probably sounds really pedantic but will EA really be doing anything at all? I can just imagine all those marketing and adminisphere people loading up visual studio and implementing fixes.

Lets be clear: EA are publishers. They are the bank, the paymaster and the prison guard. They are not the developers. Crytek will be fixing the bugs.

Combining Power & Speed suit functions to the default mode for the suit makes sense. The main reason being it gets the player out of that annoying radial menu and allows the player to make faster and better use of the other suit mechanics, for more dynamic combat. So the suit functions are by hotkey only.
I never used the radial menu in the previous games, but rather the suit shortcuts option. Doubletap jump or melee for power, sprint for speed, crouch for cloak, and back for armor. I liked that system much better, particularly being able to instantly power jump rather than the delayed power jump we have now.

Anyway, aside from the bugs, like the nanosuit upgrade points disappearing when you quit the game, the many ranked lobbies where the game never starts, and the seriously jacked reflections, Crysis 2 is a good game in its own right. As a sequel though it feels like a step back in a lot of ways.

This game freaking rocks. After setting up a custom cfg based off the nvidia 3d vision forum I've got a real good 3D depth going. There's a strange ghosting artifact with their proprietary 3D rendering, but I can pretty much ignore it (fucks up aiming down iron sights a bit though).

Also.. I have an SLI setup but none of this flashing people are getting (and both GPU's are in use). I have the latest betas off the NVIDIA page and the SLI update.

Game's just seriously fun, and the graphics are delicious. Damn curious as to how good the DirectX 11 patch is going to be??!

Crytek wants us to pay $60 for a pc version of this game, while they obviously did almost no QA/testing for it. Now if they came out and said, pay us and we will 100% address issues as they appear because we have no resources/money to test the PC version, then that would sound good. However, without guarantee they will address all PC version game issues $60 sounds too much to ask at least of me.

It would be pretty fucking awesome. I'm just saying it's not the only thing I would enjoy, or required for me to like something. It sometimes seems like that IS a requirement for many people here.

I'm not whining about it either, different standards for different people. I'm just glad I seem to have a lower fun threshold, or whatever term you want to use.

It's like the RPG Codex, but for PC games in general.

That's a bit of an exaggeration. Many people here have openly admitted to enjoying Bethesda and Bioware's games. If this were RPG Codex, they'd all be banned.

Most posters here will only be happy with a PC exclusive that plays like it came out in 1999 but looks like it came out in 2015.

That would be pretty awesome, actually. I'd happily pay $60 for remakes of Tribes, SS2, Planescape: Torment, etc, with the same gameplay but modern visuals.

What does it do? Outline them? I like that idea. (Btw, it was in Crysis too. The binoculars would highlight dropped weapons, but even with the binoculars it was still nigh impossible to find them.)

Good review btw. Thanks for posting it.

Creston

The tactical Visor replaces the Binoculars to an extent. First thing, you can move, but cannot shoot in Visor mode. It brings up a few things on your display, mission objective location in blue, cursor over to see objective. 1 to 4 optional waypoints in yellow cursor over them to view the games often 1 word tactical suggestion - Supply, Grenade, Stealth, Sniper Position etc.

It also shows the location of all the weapons in the area with a graphic that you can choose to mark as waypoints...show up as very faint markers out of Visor mode. You tag these, much like you did enemies in Crysis, which you can do here as well. You mark the enemies in Visor mode and you get very faint triangle markers out of Visor mode.

EDIT: You arent limited in the amount of enemies being Marked red, but they only stay red for about 15 seconds.

I cant find a screenshot of it, I'll take one, it will be on my Steam Screenshots later.

EDIT: here ya go... not the best example. http://steamcommunity.com/id/krovven/screenshot/540637749850218574
You can see the optional waypoints, on the right side, you can see 1 marked enemy and 1 not marked (triangles), and the type of icon it gives for supply crates and weapons, icon changes depending on the gear at the location.

A better Visor screenshot will be at the same link above a bit later.

When you cursor over something that you can pick up, there is a faint glow around the object, barely even noticeable most of the time.

One thing I hope they add, is the option to turn off all the "tips", primarily the constant text popups, "press A to lean", "press Left Shift to grab". They are small and slightly intrusive, but I tune them out most of the time.
