Happiness is a Warm Gun

The Warm Gun Website is online, offering an intro trailer for this upcoming UDK multiplayer class-based first-person shooter that shows a wild west meets Mad Max-style post-apocalyptic flair. The game is planned for release on Windows, iPhone, and iPad in May. Word is: "This spun western lets you take control of 6 original characters; choose from weapons new and strange and a wider range of modern contraptions with primitive power. Classic and innovative, undoubtedly original, every FPS player will find happiness with Warm Gun." Thanks Joao.

Ah, I remember the old days, when a game like this would just be a free mod, instead of a crappy retail product.

/Get off my lawn, damn kids/

If the mod makers had access to commercially-licensed SDKs back then, they likely would've charged for their projects then, too. Let's face it - there's one thing savvy creative software types want to do more than make games, and that's making money making games.

I can't say as to blame them, really.

Damnit more reminders that I'm getting old, this game reminded me a bit of Future vs. Fantasy for Quake, except the Shaman would have actually had magic then.

I was in shock that I'm not the only crusty bastard to remember AQ2!
*raises can o' beer to the sky and sheds a tear*

Ah yes...playing AQ2 with my 33.6 modem, and 500-1000ms ping...those were the days
Aside from the ping issue, that mod was awesome. Had a lot of fun with it despite the lag

I also loved AQ2 and had lots of fun hours in it. I even created a map for it. If you've ever seen a map with more bizarre secrets than Duel then I'd like to hear about it!
nin: This forum is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions.

xXBatmanXx: What he means is Old BBS, El Presidente, real wrath of SysOp type stuff.

Kinda Rage meets Borderlands meets Call of Juarez ( the guy in the church ) meets Brink ( character customisation etc )

Or is it me? Looks sweet? looks a bit cheap compared to those games.. or is it me? Well.. time will tell..

Those must be really old days, because I'm almost 36 and I can't remember ever playing a mod like this.

I also don't know how you know its crappy. Are you in beta? You have some inside insight that we don't?

I'm not in beta, but if it's another ipad/iphone/X platform game, I am gambling that it will be dumbed down/simplified in some ways, if at the very least just the control scheme. Will this be crappy? It becomes personal opinion at this point.

Maybe it will be a good game, but yes it brings to mind other mods, not the exact same setting(post apocalyptic-westernish), but slight departures from standard fps games:

Action Quake(for being the first for nonstandard FPS moves), Day of Defeat(back when it was new, amazing and free), Pirates vs Vikings vs Ninja, the orignal QWTF that started it all, etc etc. All variations on class based team fps games, most basically ripping off QWTF to some extent.

You may remember those days as: "when mods for existing engines weren't instantly sold at retail" or "when CTF with crossbows was not an excuse to charge 9.99" or what have you.
