Gold - Homefront

THQ announces that Homefront is gold, and Kaos Studios' now-complete first-person shooter is on track to meet its promised release dates of March 15 in North America and Europe, March 17 in Australia, and March 18 in the U.K. Word is: "In advance of release, THQ is preparing hundreds of dedicated servers in multiple locations across the globe to support Homefront's epic multiplayer mode." Here's a bit on the game:
2027. A once proud America has fallen, her infrastructure shattered and military in disarray. Crippled by a devastating EMP strike the USA is powerless to resist the ever expanding occupation of a savage, nuclear armed Greater Korean Republic.

Abandoned by her former allies, the United States is a bleak landscape of walled towns and abandoned suburbs. This is a police state where high school stadiums have become detention centers, and shopping malls shelter armored attack vehicles. A once-free people are now prisoners... or collaborators... or revolutionaries.

The story is really weird. North Korea manages to take over South Korea, China, Japan, and other countries, before invading the USA. If they somehow invented a super powerful technology before doing so (Nanobots! Super mech walkers! Deflector shields!), then it would make more sense.. but the info so far suggests they just got.... really angry. Anger is power!
Just finished the book for this game and it fleshes out the back story pretty decently.... This isn't something where the NK's just wake up one day and say let's invade, there was a lot of planning and a lot of things going wrong in America at the time that helped it along... Some more details as I rememebr them...
Spoilered
  • The US economy takes a much larger dump than it has been.
  • Due to the economy, gas jumps to $20/gallon, which helps result in huge unemployment as people can't afford to get to work.
  • Due to the economy, the US miltary has huge cutbacks and pulls out of almost all oversea areas and shrinks it's standing army
  • NK unites with SK and over time become one of the only nations with a decent economy and the major exportor of new technology
  • They use this and start to slowly take over other areas near them... Since China was relying on the US for econmoy and we stopped buying things, their economy is in the toilet as well
  • The NK lauch some huge cyber attacks on the US when they are ready. Since many PC components are from them, they have built in back doors. They use this to help cripple the military infrastructure.
  • They then hit the US with a massive EMP blast, destroying the majority of electronic components... No cars, no lights, not a single luxury..... Like Robinson Crusoe it's as primitive as can be! But, really lots off things are bad.. no cars for transport, no electricty, so hospitals and everything else is screwed, and total loss of all communications... no cell phones, land lines, radio, tv, etc.... So even if the miltary was at 100% there is no way to communicate... Plus since everyone is down, there is no way for the average person to know if it's local or in a larger area.
  • they then come in on the West coast and spread from there, but do not try to take over the whole country
