Crysis 2 Multiplayer Demo

The promised multiplayer demo for Crysis 2 is now available, offering the chance to check out Crytek's first-person shooter sequel, along with an opportunity to evaluate the game's CryENGINE 3 and see how it runs on your system. According to Gamer's Hell: "The demo also features two modes: Team Instant Action pits two teams against each other as they kill as many opponents as possible to win the round and Crash Site, where players will battle for control of alien drop pods, earning points by guarding their pods and keeping enemies at bay." The demo is available on ActionTrip, Atomic Gamer, ComputerGames.ro, GamePron, Gamer's Hell, GeForce.com, Strategy Informer, and WorthPlaying.

I never thought I'd say this, but I hope Crytek majorly crashes and burns for what they've done with this game.

HUH? This multiplayer demo has an ending? What? I just read that in today's EA e-mail. Also, http://www.ea.com/crysis-2/1/demo?sourceid=eag2967 says it in its FAQ.

What a waste of bandwidth.
Just wasted 15 minutes installing
25 minutes staring a server list and trying to connect various servers
25 minutes staring a chat window / list of players.

Not even managed to spawn into a map.

Now having read the comments here sounds like it's going to look and play like a crappy XBox game instead of a PC game.
Why doesn't Microsoft just bundle a Xbox360 emulator in with the next DX version and save all the developers the 2 or 3 days they currently spend in 'porting' their games from the console to PC.
Between MS and lazy game devs PC gaming is finally dying.

I don't blame pirates because 3 of the 4 last games I bought actually played better and with less hassles after I applied cracks to them!

Edit: Oh, and this game pretty much sucks. The new nanosuit functionality is totally consolized. I loved the original suits with the different modes. This one only has two other modes in addition to the regular mode which enables a more powerful shot.

Well, now I've completely lost interest in this game. I loved the first half of Crysis, before it became totally linear and repetitive when the aliens showed up. The suit was fun, even if it could have used some improvement. This just sounds really lame.

I thought Q2 had 32/64 player maps out in the late 90's.

I remember it being a big deal back then. The maps were just strung together chunks of the SP game tho but it was still something to behold. You needed 12832MB ram or so to run them tho.

the whole soft-focus/motion-blur thing is ghastly. It has been from the beginning - not just in Crytek games, but as a whole. If I wanted my games to look like someone smeared my monitor with a bucket of Vaseline, I'd just go buy some and lather it up. I can't be the only one that likes sharp presentation and crisp, clean edges, can I?

First "feature" in setup that I disable. I want graphics crisp, photorealistic and high rez, not an ugly smudge.
Ditto. It doesn't even look realistic too. When I turn my head, I don't get that much blur.

Replace that old Voodoo3. I hear the GeForce is a good videocard. Cool
So a GeForce 2? 4 MX? 5220 FX? 6800?

Sooo... unlockable suit powers, huh? I'm sure that'll do wonders for balance when experienced players have access to more, superior suit powers while new players are stuck with the very basics.

I take it there will be scalable graphics settings in dx 10/11? I certainly hope so.

Not having adjustable graphics in dx9 mode is pc doom as far as I'm concerned. How could Crytek do that?!!!

They're supposed to have been one of the last remaining PC developers! They are the only ones to have pushed graphics technology forward in like the last half decade!

EDIT: The demo clocks in at 1.6 GB. I'm stuck on a low end DSL line that transfers only about 86-91 kilobytes per second. That leaves me with 5 hours of download time.
Interesting post - on the one hand you want a demo with DX11 and high res textures, on t'other you find the current one a bit big (and slow to transfer). Think about it.
But it is a *DEMO* which should be showing off the full capabilities of the game. Think about it.

I did, but I wasn't making a smartarse remark - more an observation. Shame you missed that!

Anyway, apparently DX11 will come as a patch post release so colour me disappointed.

I was simply exclaiming about the size and voicing my displeasure at my slow connection. Obviously, if you want good graphics you have to put up with a larger file size.

Why can't I complain about the wait without compromising my position?

I was going to try the demo, but from the sound of it I'd be better off not letting it spoil my hope for this game. "Press Start"? No graphics options? Seriously?

I loved the first Crysis, and everything I've seen about this game makes me have some hope I'll love it just as much. Everything except it being set in a city, anyway. I love urban environments, but I'm hoping that being in a city wasn't a console concession and doesn't result in small-ish, linear levels.

As an aside, exaggerated bloom, blur, saturated colors, and lens flare are all okay with me. I'm playing a game; I don't want ultra-realistic, "so real that it sucks as much as real life" effects.

No, you're not. I fucking HATE motion blur with a passion, and it's turned off in every single game I own.

I don't mind motion blur when it's subtle, like in Valve's games. The motion blur in Crysis wasn't very subtle, though, and was distracting.

Same thing applies to depth of field. When used appropriately (like with iron sights), it can add to a game. However, when it's used to blur out anything in the distance, it just looks bad. There's no way the game can tell what the player's eyes are focusing on so arbitrarily making things blurry usually doesn't work very well.

I don't like it. I also don't like how the nanosuit has been dumbed down to a passive setting and two alternate settings.

I especially don't like that they didnt include adjustable graphics. Some video cards, like mine, just can't handle motion blur well at all.

I was able to run Crysis in a customized very high setting, with certain things disabled (like very high lights and motion blur) and was able to get 30 FPS. I was able to enjoy very high texture in its entirety.

With this demo I have to set it to "Gamer", which is the lowest setting possible. It runs like shit on medium.

Planed obsolescence by way of game design.

Crytek has never had much success with multiplayer going all the way back to Far Cry. I think Crysis had numbers in the several thousand playing its multiplayer, and that was in its prime just after release.

So, when does that beta start up for Battlefield 3?
