Battlefield 3 Footage, Preorder Bonus

A new Battlefield 3 gameplay trailer shows off a glimpse of gameplay in DICE's upcoming military shooter sequel (thanks Krisz). The clip is brief and the cuts are very rapid, but this provides the first proper look at the game in action. Also, there are some Battlefield 3 screenshots on BF3Blog from German magazine Gamestar (thanks VG247). On a semi-related note, GameInformer.com has a video of a DICE studio tour. Finally, DICE announces they are offering the game's Back to Karkand DLC as a preorder incentive, revealing the game carries a $59.99 USD price tag:
Those anxious to start the fight can pre-order the Battlefield 3 Limited Edition now at www.battlefield.com. The Battlefield 3 Limited Edition includes Battlefield 3™: Back to Karkand at no extra charge.* This themed expansion pack features four legendary maps from Battlefield 2 boldly re-imagined with Frostbite 2 physics, destruction and visuals. Completing the package are classic Battlefield 2 weapons and vehicles, unique rewards, new achievements/trophies, and more.

Most gamers are unthinking consumers these days. They just buy whatever is thrown their way, moan about it, and do the same thing again. Talk of pre-ordering, day one purchases etc. can only make gaming worse in the long run. I expect this to be good but who really knows? Plus EA are guaranteed to pull off at least a few dickish moves to further their profit margin.

I'm so gonna get this game even if it's $60. I've played every BF game since 1942 and unlike many BF veterans i love Bad Company 2 as much as i loved BF2. So i'm hoping BF3 will be the best of both. I'd rather buy BF3 twice then pay for CallofDuty Whatever™ once.

Portal 2: First game was "free" even if it is more of the same, it is worth it.
Homefront: If you notice I got Metro 2033 for free.

But we're not talking about Portal or Metro 2033 here. We're talking about Portal 2 and Homefront. Portal 2 could be great, mediocre or awful. You won't know how much it's actually worth until you play it. Same with Homefront. You didn't really get Metro 2033 for free if Homefront ends up being a worthless piece of crap. Again, you won't know until you play it. For what it's worth, this hands-on preview of Homefront wasn't very flattering: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/02/22/hands-on-preview-homefront/

Saints Row 2: Console game. I was picking things off the top of my head. I was sitting at the bar with my laptop, didn't have access to my current purchases list....

Deal with it.

When you look at supply and demand of games now vs then. 60 is way to much. There are so many games out there, and they complain about lackluster sales.

Think about when football games were 29.99....the competition went away with the licensing deal and now all football games are double that. Pretty sad. The problem is we let them get away with it. I buy 2-3 full price games a year.

Recent buys at full price (and deserving)
Portal 2
Homefront (got Metro 2033 for free)
BFBC2 (have over 100 hours in the game)
GTA4 SE
Saints Row 2
L4D2 4 pack (discount)
Cod Blops (1 for PC at 60.00 and 1 for xbox for 40.00) all friend driven

Looking at that, I got my moneys worth by time put into the games alone. Not to mention I have 30+ friends who play each game and for me it is more about being social and laughing having a good time.

That being said....am I pissed that BF3 is going to be 60.00? Yes, bc of what they have been doing with games lately with zero day DLC, etc and turning and burning games. They have yet to fix numerous bugs, hax, problems in their current gen games let alone releasing another game with more problems with the same engine.

I will end up buying it. I enjoy their games and the games with my friends....but that doesn't mean I won't be sour about it. It isn't a zero day purchase for me. It will be a wait and see or a bargain purchase.

just sayin....

I hate the $60 pricetag. But if I was a BF fan I'd suck it up to start playing. For a BF fan this is probably at least 1 hour per dollar. Probably more. That's not too bad.
I still hate BF and will avoid this like a mucky plague, but it isn't the price keeping me away.

I don't mind the $60 price tag, I've gotten literally hundreds of hours out of most BF games on PC. According to bf2s.com I'm at around 9 cents per gameplay hour and am guessing I'm close to that with 1942 and 2142 as well. I can live with that cost per hour.

Well the graphics are impressive but the stuff they showed looks like a CoD staged SP experience. Nothing looked like you were playing against other players... Almost every scene had you following a group of soldiers so I'm guessing they are making a CoD like SP campaign?

Show me some jets dammit. Enough with this other crap, show me the MP! I wanna see what it looks like to pilot a jet and drop bombs!

Would be nice if there was finally a reason to upgrade and buy a game on the pc again. Balls in your court DICE. Make me believe!

They're skipping out on the core "design" part of "level design", but the artwork and everything else is going to have to be done anew. They won't be "copy pasted".

Or maybe they're overcharging for NDS games? Talk about copy and paste though, the entire lineup of games for the thing are nothing but.

hmm, 59.99 is not bad at all...considering in 1983 2600 games cost 29.99...which is about 63 dollars in today's money.

Damn I got ripped off, I remember them costing $39.99

Toys R us was the vanguard in getting the price lowered, but they weren't as prevalent as they are now, it was an "event" to get to go to one back then.

Not upset about the price - but it does make me think how awesome Creative Assembly and Sega are for selling Shogun 2 for $50. That's a game I'd get my money's worth out of if I paid 500 bucks.
