But these infantile developers base the decision whether to develop less for PC on their malformed, misconstrued perceptions on piracy mythology instead of facts, such as that piracy happens everywhere and is not "killing PC gaming".

I don't disagree with you conceptually but developers these days don't really make independent decisions on what platforms to pursue unless they are indie. Piracy happening everywhere still doesn't explain why console platforms typically outsell the PC by vast margins, so of course the suits pick whatever convenient excuse they prefer. If it wasn't piracy, it would be something else.

You on the other hand, just want to repeat self-evident concepts that piracy is bad and that developers deserve recompense for their hard work

I haven't even said anything about recompense or personal morals, you're thinking of someone else.

It's not crying pointing out a conceptual double standard, no matter how much you try to say different for whatever end you may seek. And if were only about appearance, I wouldn't care. But these infantile developers base the decision whether to develop less for PC on their malformed, misconstrued perceptions on piracy mythology instead of facts, such as that piracy happens everywhere and is not "killing PC gaming".

You on the other hand, just want to repeat self-evident concepts that piracy is bad and that developers deserve recompense for their hard work. Any sane poster on Blues already knows this. Or half-sane, as in my case.

You were the one crying here, I'm not sure why you keep trying to displace that to me. I don't need a publisher or developer to issue an announcement to make me feel better about my platform of choice but I guess I'm just less invested in appearances. Nothing is said of console piracy because it doesn't appear to have an effect on sales. People "cry" about pc piracy because it's a bit harder to swallow the piracy pill when your pc version hasn't even made back it's budget. In other news, 2 + 2 = 4.

Common enough that it happens for almost every console release. For example, Marvel vs Capcom 3 popped up on the net about 3 days ago but nobody has said a thing. Conversely, if a high-profile PC game was pirated before release, you'd be seeing headlines on every site and publishers/developers would be releasing press announcements bemoaning the state of PC gaming. You never really hear much about console piracy because consoles dominate the market. You don't really need to make excuses when your game is selling millions of units on consoles. If it were the opposite and PC games dominated the market, you wouldn't be hearing about PC piracy so much either.

To be fair, Killzone 3 wasn't really leaked. What's being pirated is the final retail version of the game that's going to be released in a week. This is pretty standard for console games. They always get pirated before release, often several weeks ahead.

Anyway the whole issue was that a HUGE deal is being made about the Crysis 2 torrent, by the publisher/developer, the gaming press, and gamers alike, while the same thing cannot be said about anything in console-land. I suppose it is just Cry(baby)Tek and it's possible once they move over to consoles we'll hear them complaining about console piracy, but I'm betting not.

To be fair to Jim Sterling he has now posted a new article on Destructoid lambasting PS3 pirates/hackers as well now.

If you're a PC gamer and you've got any self respect at all, you won't buy Crysis 2. They basically called the entire PC gaming community pirates and are blaming you for this leak.

Don't buy their game. It's that simple. This studio is a joke and you should not support thing kind of BS. Don't download it, don't buy it, don't rent it, leave it sitting on the shelf collecting dust and kiss this company goodbye. (Crytek)

The comment section is even more stupid than the article. In fact, the comment sections reads like if all the stupidity of the universe got condensed into it, and then exploded in our faces as we read it.

I advise anyone to not give what Sterling wants from that article, clicks on the site.

We also have Jim Sterling on destructoid going postal and insane over PC pirates and how nobody should develop for PC anymore. yet no mention on KZ3 leak.

Disgusting really, even more considering the KZ3 is pretty much the final game and the C2 leak is a very buggy mess from the reports around the net.

This double standard really is disgusting.

I guess it's for balance, not to mention an interesting study in how the PC market and console market are perceived differently.

We get a whiney note from Crytek about how piracy is killing the PC market, yet nothing is said about piracy when the same thing happens to a console game.

If news sites start reporting on game leaks, each site will need to hire fives guys just to keep up.

Game reporting sites, leaks happen all the time, it isn't news.
