Warhammer Online Server Closures, Free Transfers

Warhammer Herald has word on free server transfers in Warhammer Online that will commence tomorrow in Mythic Entertainment's MMORPG. The bad news is this is because the Iron Rock and Volkmar servers in North America are being shut down, so they are offering players from those servers the chance to migrate to any server as long as it's Gorfang, while players on the German Carroburg server are being allowed a free transfer to Drakenwald. In each case the old servers will remain open for three weeks to accommodate transfers, and players also have the option of using a paid transfer to go to choose a different destination. Both of these destination servers will have multi-realm ability enabled, which they explain "allows accounts to have both Order and Destruction characters on the server and increases the character limit to 20. There will be an 8 hour lockout when switching realms on the server." They also offer instructions on guild transfers. Here is the reasoning: "As part of our ongoing efforts to maintain an active, competitive, and engaging experience in WAR we have decided to open free transfers for players to specific servers. WAR, more than many games, only gets better with more people. These transfers will enable players to experience more action during all hours whether fighting in scenarios or Open RvR." Thanks Massively.

WAR is a classic example of an MMO that had so much potential, utterly fail because of how it was managed. I wanted to love WAR so much, but the developers never listened to the warning signs the fans were giving them and continued screwing everything up and going as far as just deleting things they couldn't fix (like forts).

And I still can't believe the pile of crap they just gave the last remaining fans in the way of an "expansion" that screwed the game up even more. It's almost as if they've wanted it to fail from day 1.

I'm one of those that are saddened whenever an MMO dies and goes offline forever, but WAR is one where I'll be cheering good riddance the day it bites the dust.

If they could release the game with its original concept, and hold true to it instead of making massive cuts and concessions, it could potentially have been a huge huge success.

Instead, they cut their own balls off and screwed up their own game through, you're right, mis-management.

The fort fights were the coolest part of the game, and the city sieges were also hugely important.

If you watch the original videocasts they released before this game came out, it was to be much much bigger, and even more badass than you could imagine. They failed to deliver even 1/10th of that promise.
