WAR is a classic example of an MMO that had so much potential, utterly fail because of how it was managed. I wanted to love WAR so much, but the developers never listened to the warning signs the fans were giving them and continued screwing everything up and going as far as just deleting things they couldn't fix (like forts).
And I still can't believe the pile of crap they just gave the last remaining fans in the way of an "expansion" that screwed the game up even more. It's almost as if they've wanted it to fail from day 1.
I'm one of those that are saddened whenever an MMO dies and goes offline forever, but WAR is one where I'll be cheering good riddance the day it bites the dust.
If they could release the game with its original concept, and hold true to it instead of making massive cuts and concessions, it could potentially have been a huge huge success.
Instead, they cut their own balls off and screwed up their own game through, you're right, mis-management.
The fort fights were the coolest part of the game, and the city sieges were also hugely important.
If you watch the original videocasts they released before this game came out, it was to be much much bigger, and even more badass than you could imagine. They failed to deliver even 1/10th of that promise.
