Battlefield 3 News Tomorrow?

Following the "watch this space for some exciting news I think you’ll like" Battlefield 3 tease in today's PC BF1943 cancellation announcement, Planet Battlefield notes a few tweets from DICE employees suggesting there will be some BF3 news tomorrow (thanks Ant). Since everyone loves an announcement about an announcement, here goes:
@locust9 - David Goldfarb
Lead designer and writer at DICE. Lead designer Battlefield 3.

    You guys ready for tomorrow? You sure? Really really sure? #BF3

@ViktorALundberg - Viktor Lundberg
Level Designer For BF3

    Tomorrow is going to be rad. That's all I have to say about that!

@Riviera75 - Peter Engström
Frostbite coder at EA DICE

    Isn't it tomorrow yet!?

If it's 64 player only on PC, are they going to use the same maps for both? Seems like they would be either too crowded or too empty depending on which number they were originally designed for.

Yeah, I hinted at that in one of my last posts. We can hope for larger maps on the PC but I think that is unlikely. I think the more realistic outcome is maps they try and design for both player limits, whatever the console limit ends up being.

Well they have already ruled out mods for Frostbite, so all that is left really is the player cap and scope of the levels. The Xbox 360 is not the original Xbox, so I think level size is easily doable even if they refuse to make different sizes for the two versions. The real question is will they work out 64 players on console, and if not will they allow it on PC (and will the levels be large enough)?

They have gone on and on about it being a great PC game and how Bad Company 2 sold so well on PC that EA can never doubt the Battlefield PC market ever again, shit like that.

Oh come on, that's not even fair. Those maps borrowed assets and styling, but the map layout was completely redesigned. They were legitimately "new" maps; there's a non-trivial amount of work that was required to cook them up.

That was the worst. They also still needed several gigabytes per patch to essentially unlock a mode due to their terrible patching system too. Very annoying, I hope they improved this for BF3.

Why is everyone here so god damn bitter? Can't you guys just be happy they are releasing Battlefield 3 instead of say...Bad Company 3?

I'm guessing some people actually gave a damn about 1943 and are just being pissy today because of that cancellation. Bad Company 2 was generally very well received and early word on BF3 has been very pro-PC and encouraging.

There really isn't much reason to be so negative about BF3 right now.

What I want to see is more options.
- I want to be able to make my own server and not have to shell out money for a dedicated one if I just want to play with some friends one day.
- Bots.
- No crazy DRM(the drm on BC2 was fine since the online authorization was optional, not mandatory).
- No stupid "map packs" that are just the same maps that we already have; make them all available with each mode from the start.
- Lan.

I completely agree with all of that. My fear though is that BF3 will be more like the Call of Duty franchise that the old Battlefield releases. If the choice is either tapping the old BF1942/BF2 fans or getting a big wet bite out of the Call of Duty market, which one will they go for? They will spend a great deal of time on a single player mode with modern cinematics for sure. Multiplayer will be the standard of Bad Company 2 but perhaps no more than that. Any of the older MP features of Battlefield like Coop with bots, dedicated LAN servers, mod support would be a wonderful surprise for me.

I really hope they come up with a good surprise or two, I still fire up mods like AIX for Battlefield 2 to this day...

Do some of these things and get my money day 1. Stop being a bunch of lazy fucks, Dice. If Treyarch can do some of these things surely you can.
If it's just gonna be Bad Company 2 with 64 max players then I will just wait till it's $15 or less on a steam sale or something. Fuck that.
