Battlefield 2142 Beta Patch [Dec 20, 2010, 11:36 am ET] – Share – Viewing Comments
The version 1.51 patch for Battlefield 2142 first announced over two years ago is still painstakingly working its way through its development cycle. As outlined on the Electronic Arts Forums, the patch is currently running on beta servers, and they plan to run the beta through the middle of next month when it will be determined whether it is ready for prime time. When it finally does go live, the new version will remove DRM from the BF2142.exe, add the Northern Strike expansion as a free release for all, and include a bunch of new maps including Strike at Karkand 2142 and Operation Blue Pearl. I played BF2 for awhile, stopped playing BF till BC2 came out. I've always been intrigued by the futuristic setting of 2142. Can anyone comment on how good or bad 2142? Is it different/good enough to consider?

AI like it alot....the futureism (is that a real word?) is cool....it let the dev make cool weapons like the MECHs....and cool gadgets like the spawn points. TITAN maps are really awesome

There's at least one community map included as well, I have a feeling that they're not going to fix many of the bugs in the beta version.

BF 2142 is my favorite of the bunch. I'll be happy if the Widescreen support is in there like the latest BF2 patch. I was gonna get BFBC2 expansion, but now i am gonna just DL BF 2142 beta patch and try it out when i get home.

They added proper widescreen to BF 2142 a long while ago. I agree it's a great game, too. Played it a LOT. Best game experience, imo, is the Gibraltar map on a full 32 player server. Great map and fantastic weapons and mix of vehicles.

I wonder if they'll fix the fact that keybindings don't save properly. It's what kept me from playing what was one of my favorite BF games of all time, that is until I got tired of fighting with the keybindings. I just want to use the same fps config I've used since I first played the original Doom. Something so basic, yet seemingly impossible to achieve in a BF game, BF1942 had the issue originally but it was patched, BF2 had the issue originally and was also patched. Not sure what it is about the 2142 team that can't seem to pull off this engineering 101 task. *crosses fingers*
