Ships Ahoy - Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam is now available for Windows, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3, offering a Vietnam War expansion for DICE's military shooter sequel. The PC version is currently available through the EA Store and Steam, and next week on December 22 it will also become available at select retailers as well as other digital distributors. The Battlefield Blog offers the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam Launch Trailer, and here's word on what to expect from the add-on:
In Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam, gamers will find themselves in an entirely new theatre of war, fighting as either the U.S. Marines or North Vietnamese Army (NVA). The punishing jungles of Vietnam are brought dramatically back to life via the award-winning Frostbite™ engine, where players can take advantage of Battlefield’s classic sandbox environments in five all-new multiplayer maps using powerful air invasions or close-quarter guerrilla tactics.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam takes all of the intensity, action and addictive gameplay of the multi-million selling Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and ups the ante with new weapons, vehicles, achievements and trophies. Featuring five all-new maps playable in four different modes including Conquest, Rush, Squad Deathmatch and Squad Rush, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam will continue to deliver exceedingly intense vehicular warfare, destruction and squad play.

The fifth map, Operation Hastings, will be unlocked as part of a worldwide community challenge, where players will work together to reach 69 million team actions on each respective community – Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and PC. The challenge begins on December 22.

Same here but not as badly as in BC2 vanilla. My K/D ratio is terrible in BC2, in some games I do not even get any kills at all but I get killed like 10-15 times. In Vietnam last night I got a game where I got 27kills 18deaths and raked in something like 10,000 points for that one game. That is something that has never ever happened to me in BC2.
Maybe Vietnam is more infantry based or something not sure, but I am having more fun/luck playing it atm than I had in BC2

Yeah, it's pretty fun although I'm getting ass handed to me regularly. It's friggin' tough and really promotes teamwork, I think. I love the jungle trees and bamboo shoots. The red tracer fire from the M60 is awesome! I really don't understand the complaints about the maps being too small. They seem ok to me. I like the chokepoint firefights.

Smoke grenades, Anti Air guns, mounted rocket launchers, mounted MG's.

Just to mention a few things that are missing.

thats my biggest gripe - the helicopter is flight is shocking! its easy to fly but can't do anything advanced with it.

The attack choppers in vanilla bc2 are now perfect. you can do some really cool moves.

it feels like there is something missing in this expansion, but i just can't put my finger on it.

it's like flying on rails. hopefully they get them back to how the apache feels in bc2, or even the blackhawk would be good enough. keeps the idiots away from them when all they can do is crash after 10 seconds of flight. now if you can breath and move your mouse slightly you're over qualified to fly in bc2:v

Anybody else miss the times where helicopters in games took some real skill to use? Feels like they've went overboard with dumbing down the controls so that anybody could do it with little or no practice.

anybody who waffles like i do when it comes to laying down money - i broke down and got this last night - had to do it through EA store, since i didn't install the main game through steam.

it rocks. way different feel from BC2, i thought. the whole game is tinted red, and it feels like a vietnam movie. the guns are all rusty looking, the flame thrower ROCKS (if you can get close enough to use it).

worth it.

A little bit of info they sadly left out when I pre-purchased it off steam. If you DID NOT buy your BBC from them you cannot get the expansion pack Vietnam from steam you must buy it through the EA store.
Now I get to wait five weeks or so to get a refund.

Otherwise, its ok, but like an earlier poster said its all about choke points. I keeps seeing the words impossible to win in the in game text and after playing 7 or 8 rush maps I have to agree. But however worthless as a weapon I thoroughly enjoy making crispy critters out of opponents with my flamethrower!
Been waiting for that one for a while!

Otherwise the music sucks. It sounds like a band trying to play 'sixties like music' without really playing any sixties music. After hear John Fogarty I was expecting better, but since he doesn't even own his own Credence music some else decides....

Yes it's absoloutely a blast and well worth the $15.

It runs smoother then BC2 for some reason, and i'm guessing it's because there is less stuff to blow up so the physics aren't hitting the CPU as hard.

Overall, finding it's a blast to play

Agreed. It's easily just as good as the original game and maybe a bit better. The maps feel a bit more open and better designed? Either way I had a real blast. Those pesky snipers should get off my lawn.

Some folks had to go into the Gamesettings.ini file (in Vista it's in User\User\Documents\BFBC2\Gamesettings.ini) and change the command below to 1 to get the radio to play in the vehicles.

CarRadio=1

Overall, finding it's a blast to play - but the lag & crazy hitcode is still there on some servers as I would expect it to be - since it's still basically BFBC2.

Have to say it's a steal IMO for $15 & a lot of fun. Was getting bored with Blops & New Vegas keeps CTDing on me - so enjoying it muchas...

I don't think they'll be adding more maps to it, and remember the maps are designed for 24 players not 32.

The X key toggles the radio stations.

The expansion is good but i'am not sure its worth $15. The maps feel small and can be meat-grinders with heavy choke-points. The choke-points in some cases are harder than the first and third stages in Valparaiso or Laguna Presa Rush.

I hope DICE ends up adding more classic Vietnam maps over time.

don't like how rail like the flying is after some seat time in the chopper.

A few minor points:

5. Have not figured out how to turn on the music soundtrack yet?

Overall WELL WORTH THE $$

Music should play when you get in a vehicle, you can even hear it blasting from choppers flying overhead.

You might need to check your settings, don't know if it's tied to in-game music setting or not.

A few minor points:

1. Basically when you log into BF:BC2 you will see a "Vietnam" icon on the left of your screen just click that & type in you key and off you go.
2. The kits are still the same & your UNLOCKS are still the same only the weapons & equipment have really changed. So if you play a sniper & have unlocked all the gear you get all the "new" gear in this version.

3. The flame thrower is pretty sweet but has NO distance really

4. The two maps I've played have been a BLAST!

5. Have not figured out how to turn on the music soundtrack yet?

Overall WELL WORTH THE $$

it's a continuation of bc2, so nothing like original bf:vietnam thats still sitting in a bucket of crap games somewhere. u do have to launch it from the bc2 menu tho. basically bc2 DLC. seems good to go so far, and a few days bonus release for pc is nice. someone out there deep in the game's industry tucked away... far far away, seems to like the PC

So how does this integrate, gameplay-wise, with BC2? Do you have choose to launch the original OR this with separate icons and never shall they mingle, or does the Vietnam stuff get "mixed in" as you're playing BC2 online? Hope that makes sense...

The content is included in the last patch for BC2, you're purchasing an unlock code that you use inside BC2 to "unlock" it. You don't start over with a new rank, that carries over from BC2 and your config settings. The content isn't mixed with existing BC2 servers so when you're playing Vietnam you don't switch to BC2 on map rotation, they did this for people who didn't purchase the DLC pack so they wouldn't get kicked etc.

If you have the Steam version of BC2 then you need to get the DLC from Steam, retail copies can purchase from EA's online store or Direct 2 Drive.

It's like playing a "total conversion" of Bad Company 2 with Vietnam era assets.

Piloter wrote on Dec 18, 2010, 17:46:
So...is this going to be a better gameplay experience than the original Battlefield Vietnam?

Perhaps more to the point, is this going to support cooperative/solo offline or LAN play with bots, the thing that made the original Battlefield 1942 (and Desert Combat/DCX) such a joy for so many years, or has Dice solidly given up on us antisocial losers who prefer to have one human per side and a whole bunch of bots filling out the roster?

How about a campaign mode, with the differences between Major Victory and Major Defeat carrying over to how well your side is doing between various maps?

It's a $15 mini DLC 5 map Vietnam themed expansion to Bad Company 2.

So the answer to all your questions is no. I haven't LAN gamed since the late 90's, do people really still do that?
