OnLive Claims Cloud Gaming Patent

Cloud gaming service OnLive is claiming a patent they were awarded last week is fundamental to cloud-based gaming, reports VentureBeat. In an apparent shot across the bows of rivals like Gaikai, OnLive CEO Steve Perlman cites U.S. patent No. 7,849,491, filed in 2002, which covers "Apparatus and method for wireless video gaming." While Perlman did not comment on whether he would be suing his competitors, they say he is trying to work out agreements with them, noting that he has never sued anyone for patent infringement, in spite of personal ownership of over 100 patents. They also say OnLive now anticipates receiving additional related patents from patent offices around the world.

The same thing goes for natural/herbal drugs (which actually work, but aren't sold/patented because you can't patent a plant) ..

Uh... no they don't. You're completely missing margins with your whole discussion here.

Same problem with private prisons,

Uh... que?

the war on drugs

Uh... how is this capitalism? Do you know how much money Philip Morris would be making if they could put a weed vending machine on every street corner? Do you know how much money the government would be making if they could tax it?

he real reason we're not all driving electric cars and using solar panels instead of being hooked to the grid..

Because solar panels haven't been efficient enough (and still aren't) to work and because electric cars are powered by coal plants and shifting to them will create as much pollution as cars currently do?

Capitalism falls over eventually

The biggest issue with your lunatic rant is that it completely ignores that someone needs to pay for things.
Could solar panels be more efficient today. Maybe. But there was no market for the less efficient ones. Where do you think the money would come from for R&D to improve them?
Same with electric cars. No market. Why would Ford or BMW start putting heavy money into electric cars when they'd end up losing the investment? The money was better places in making gas cars more efficient. NO ONE wants to be dependent upon OPEC, but our gas dependency is an institution and the switching cost is insanely high. It can't be done overnight.

But, since you're whining about capitalism in simplistic, ignorant terms I assume you think the government and taxpayers should have been the ones funding this change. Well, fine. Great. How do you think we should choose which changes we go on? How do we choose which technologies are best? How do we change if better ones come along? How do we pay for this?

Your economic views are painfully simplistic. It's like you think we're the way we are because people are evil.
