Total War Title Change

SEGA is changing the naming convention for the Total War series, reports Eurogamer, saying the title of the next installment in Creative Assembly's real-time strategy series is now known as Total War: Shogun 2 rather than Shogun 2: Total War. They seem to think whatever confusion this may cause will help clear up confusion: "Both Creative Assembly and SEGA have intended to invert the Total War naming convention for some time," a SEGA spokesperson tells them. "The Total War series of games spans over 10 years of titles. We wanted to identify all of these as one series using a more obvious naming convention for players."

If you lookat Civ games in a shop (people still buy games in shops? how quaint.) then they're all neatly in a row.
Total War games are all over the shop so maybe this will eventually bring them together... if PC games are still sold in shops in a few years time.

Be that as it may, but the change makes total sense.

The series is called TOTAL WAR - it has to be in front of the name.

I've always thought it would make more sense to put Total War in front because that's really the best identifier for the games.

Of course they do, how else could you explain this diabolic attempt to disguise their roots to the failure, called "Empire - Total War"?

I don't care if they call it Barbie Pet rescue Universe - I want it!

It's gonna be War 2 Total Shogun by next month to clear up any remaining confusion.

Honestly, Sega's marketing department should be taken out and shot. They'd be unable to manage 1 million sales for the next Call of Duty. They're so lucky to have Total War which is niche and more or less markets itself. It's almost impossible to fsck up but they'll try.
