Urban Terror HD Plans

The Urban Terror Website has word on plans for a new non-GPL version of Urban Terror as a standalone game, rather than a Quake III mod. They say they expect to release their first beta between now and Christmas. Word is: "To be able to do all that, (Urban Terror HD) is going to ship as an official Q3 licensee, forked properly from the 1.32b Quake sources. The GPL stuff we’ve made public releases of (IoUrbanTerror 4.1 and IOBumpy) will still have their sources available, but there won’t be another Q3/GPL’d Engine Urban Terror release. From the next version on out, Urban Terror will be its own standalone game with its own engine and no longer a mod. This means we can do the tech we want instead of having to keep backwards compatibility with vanilla Q3." Thanks ASLayerAODsk.

Cool. Had a lot of great hours of fun with this mod back in the day. What a riot.
Same here. I even played it in Red Hat Linux v7.x and PowerBook G4's Mac OS X 10.2.8 with Q3A (still have it!). I wonder how much has changed since those days.

Well, the engine it WAS on allowed for the triple jump, with the 3rd jump being ridiculously far - but now with the stamina update mentioned in this thread - something tells me it isn't as franctic as it USED to be.

I liked it to AQ2, as you and I both know ANT!

I still have yet to find the felling, fun, action, intense gameplay that AQ2 gave for years.....it remains at the top of my gameplay over the years as the most enjoyable.
YES! Ugh, we're old.

Wow this mod is still active?
Active and quite popular. UT currently has around 1,500 players online. Usually it has a bit more than that, sometimes less.
Yeah I played it years ago. Back when they added the stamina changes (myself and many others hated that change and ran old versions because of it). Also the random ass head shots. Sniping with a pistol was fun.
