S.T.A.L.K.E.R. TV Series?

PC Gamer shows the way to this trailer apparently from a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. television series based on the shooter set in the Chernobyl wasteland. Details are scant, though the website says the series is "coming soon."

The Stalker games are some of the best, if not THE best, games I've ever played - but unfortunately the plot was a bit lame so I'm not sure it would be good for TV or a movie. It would have been much better if they had used some of the concepts from the novella, which was completely mind blowing.

Agree with surf for once in that the news on the stalker 2 consolisation does not bode well for the future...

Risky and original, bout time. Fucking tired to death of the same, "safe money" bet shows out there like Friends and Jon Stewart. Walking Dead should hopefully be good, as the first episode was stellar, the 2nd one not so much but ok enough.

Stalker is one of the best games, let alone IP's that has come out for gaming and art in decades. Very hard core, excellent graphics, interesting story, horrible endings. The series teeters on extinction but they manage to have 3 successful games.

looking forward to Stalker 2, but afraid it is going to take a shit with motivations on profit and consolization.

Consoles can't handle a game like stalker and I don't mean that graphically. Kids have the attention span of a gnat and this game is fairly slow paced which is very much welcomed.

It's just going to be strapping a camera on to one of the hardcore LARPers who do this regularly.

As long as it not made for SyFy, that would be the kiss of death for sure.

I don't always drink carbonated Mexican rat piss, but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis.

This is the way to go. I've always said that movies based on (good) games don't work because there is just too much information to cram into such a short time period, but a TV series is perfect for basing off games.

If anyone hasn't seen the original Tarkovsky classic, the complete Stalker film is available on Google Videos.

The Stalker film was pretty rad. Not sure if they would ever be able to outclass that so they might as well get real gimmicky on that post-apocalyptic vibe; could be alright. Probably better as a TV show than a game... just saying.

its not just from the game, i imagine

The background and some terminology of the game ("The Zone", "Stalker") is borrowed from the popular science fiction novella Roadside Picnic by Boris and Arkady Strugatsky and the 1979 Andrei Tarkovsky film Stalker that was loosely based on it, as well as Stalker, the film's subsequent novelization by the original authors.

without games, or shows like stalker how would we know which are the good products without the horribly failed and mutilated carcasses that get discharged from gsc on a semi-regular basis. so much potential... so much fail.

A TV series could be incredible, but it will most likely be terrible. The problem with TV is almost every single episode has a different director, some of them understand the backstory/canon and some of them don't.
Look at walking dead, brilliant comic, and incredible first episode, but clearly the director of the 2nd episode didn't have a clue about zombies or the backstory.

You do know the TV series is made by GSC, you know...the company that made the STALKER games?

The problem is that you can't patch TV shows.

Sure you can patch TV shows. That's why there are Season 2 - Season 3 - and so on.

But if Season 1 is a complete mess, the chance of Season 2 getting the green light is very low.

Here is the Hulu link. However, only the pilot will be available on stream. The others you will have to find elsewhere where it is legit or illegit.

What's this "Walking Dead" you're all talking about, let me google...

A TV series with ZOMBIES? Produced by Frank Darabont and Gale Anne Hurd of James Cameron fame? Win all the way, surely! Must download...
