Yeah I'm a huge fan of pushups. They are probably the most effective overall exercise for the body and require nothing. You get a tremendous work out for your core and it's really easy to build momentum doing them even if you have very poor starting strength. They are actually really fun to do after you get over the initial hill too.

Steps to healthy life:
1. Cut out snacks.
2. Eat normal portions.
3. Don't eat when your stomach starts to grumble. Push through it, you actually arn't starving believe it or not.
4. Pick up some kind of regular excercise. Walking, volleyball league, racquetball, swimming, etc.
-NOTE: Videogames do not count as regular excercise.

Optional:
Cardio/other workouts. Bicycle kicks worked wonders for me, and pushups kept me motivated since I immediately starting seeing results.

DO NOT QUIT WHEN YOU PLATEAU. Push past it and you really start getting in shape.

It's difficult, but the extra years you add and the overall better feeling both emotionally and physically are worth it.

Yup.

Not to keep this off topic, but just relaying the same on P90X.

If you want the results, you have to change - mind, body, and soul. You need to eat better and keep up with the program - that's 6 days per week ~ 1 hr. 15 minutes per day. The 7th day is optional rest or strecthing. I was sketical at first too, after a year I'm a believer.

Some complain that P90X doesn't work Cardio enough and that is true depending on your fitness level. If your advanced, take a look at Insanity. Insanity is pure cardio. But, don't even think about Insanity unless you are in fair shape to start.

I'm gonna give this whole Fitness Evolved game a crack as an alternative to one of the P90X/Insanity cardio days or for fun on the 7th day off.

I have P90X. Those videos are intense and require the chinup bar. Probably way to intense for most here (especially if you think you can get fit using the wii or kinect).

Best thing to do is get into a good cardio routine for 45 min/day. Requires no equipment, just your feet. Oh, and lay off the Cheetos.

Though I did call you fat but that was really just trolling your troll.

Seriously, the P90X deal costs a fortune if you go the legit route.

It's actually pretty cheap considering what you get out of it but to each his own. You probably spend more on donuts and coffee in a few months.

Sell your treadmill and get an elliptical, they are "girly" but you get a far more effective cardio workout from them, less pain for more gain. It sounds like you're already on track, you just need a strength training routine. Check out the stripped 5x5 for beginners. Fast and enjoyable, you will see rapid gains with it as well. Totally free and uses very basic equipment that every gym will have or stuff you can purchase cheaply on Craigslist that won't take up space at home. You and I sound like we have similar routines and I'm always pressed for time, P90 and Stripped 5x5 were two of the only things I could fit into my schedule effectively for what it's worth.

Anyways good luck if you decide to do it and feel free to hit me up if you need any pointers.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will have to look into this P90 stuff.
I run on my thread mill every day 30 minutes before work, but I need more it is not enough, kids and work doesn't allow me enough time in the day to go to gym like I used to. I am not fat like I said but because I sit in the office all day I need to do something otherwise it is super easy to become overweight.

Anyways thanks for the info on this I'll check it out.

Is it?
I've looked at that ones but from the infomercial this looked just like the million other programs/products out there that promises the same thing.
I am not fat but wouldn't mind loosing 10-15 pounds I just can't seem to get rid of

Don't do P90X unless you're already in decent shape, you'll have a heart attack. There's a fitness test for it, I'll put it that way. Do Power 90, it's for beginners.

To answer your question, it's not like typical infomercial crap though. You don't need proprietary equipment(the beginning program uses resistance bands and the advanced one uses a chin up bar but you can even work around those) and it's all based on proven lift/tension/cardio routines that are well established in the industry. The guy who made it recommends you use vitamins and work out supplements but you can easily get by making your own protein shakes and using a multivitamin from any store. He just put it all together into a tight combination and fit most of it into one hour sessions. There is nothing terribly revolutionary outside of what I mentioned, it's just a great overall package for people who aren't already doing those things. Easy to memorize and execute, it's like "getting into shape for dummies".

Like most people, I put on 20 pounds after college and I could never manage to get rid of it. A year of WoW added another 10 pounds to that. Eventually I grew tired of the extra weight and missed being in shape so I did Power90 and lost 25 pounds, put on some muscle and etc. Did P90X about six months later and gained some weight but it's all muscle. Hell I wasn't even this ripped in college in the first place. It really does work, it gets you into basic stuff that you eventually graduate into more advanced routines.

If you want a free alternative then do some basic cardio and use the Stripped 5x5 routine, it's a great strength training program for beginners.

If you follow the program and don't give up, it absolutely does.

Unlike Kinects little exercise program, or any other exercise game on the market, evidently "developed" by Mens Health, P90X actually evolves over the course of the program. It switches it up on you, twice, keeping your body guessing, not getting bored or reaching any plateau. I won't sugar coat it, it is not easy. It is, however, fun and does actually work. I also want to stress that the purpose of the program is to simply get you in excellent shape, its goal isn't to get you ripped, though it can if you work towards that goal.

People will get bored with the Kinect game, like they have with all other fitness games, within a month and accomplish nothing. These games do not motivate you. You just hope doing 10 knee bends that the little boring avatar is doing on the screen with change your life. It does not work that way. It does not do a number of other things but I'll stop here before I ramble on for too long.

Regarding a statement I often hear like "it's better than nothing" when people attempt to justify the purchase of fluff. In my opinion, it is not better than nothing. The money spent on the fluff could have been spent on something substantial had one did the research. That is often what fitness and accomplishing health related goals requires, time and research.
