I went back and tried those jalapeno-flavored 1st degree Doritos, and found that, like many hot foods, they become much more tolerable after the first one and your mouth is used to the burn. This lead to checking out the 2nd degree "fiery buffalo" wings, which were not much hotter, though the flavor is a little more appealing. The thing is that they also still have that weird Doritos aftertaste, which has a bit of an artificial quality to it, so I don't know if I can be inspired to sample the 3rd degree chips, in spite of how much I like the flavor of habanero peppers.

I'm finishing off a bag of those 3rd Degree Burn chips now. If you're hoping for the flavor of Habañero, I didn't get any. While I did enjoy them, personally I'd describe them as tasting like the original nacho cheese Doritos only hot. That unmistakable trademark MSG aftertaste is undeniable, though I find it pairs well with a nice chilled Mountain Dew. As for the heat, it's right in my sweet spot and I'd compare it to Sriracha sauce. Definitely one of the hotter commercial "flavors" I've had, but nothing compared to a good homemade chili.
