Tis indeed sad - and its true that "working" for the reward is much better reward than just getting it for standard skills... but then again, given the "audience" these games are made thats to be expected

i know it may be a tough concept for some of you.. but getting a mid-air hit in tribes was extremely rewarding, and IMHO much more so than unlocking some weapon or getting some "gold star" trophy achievement bullshit

yeh i think its silly that people play video games to "acquire" "something" but its cool tho - have your gold stars, kids - live it up .. dont want to rain on your awesome parade of awesomeness

I think people miss one of the goals of perks and leveling up ans such, which is keeping players interested. Tribes was interesting in itself because of its setting and lowgrav. In a normal war game, which is such an overloaded genre, they need something to make them different. Perks and currency systems keeps things refreshing. Don't like the way you are playing with your sniping class? Try grenade launching with resupply and sonic boom(I forgot what it's called now). Get tired of that? Go stealth with a suppressor and ninja. That's why other games get boring, there is one "good gun" that everyone uses. Class setups in COD allow for different guns to be good. Because of the whole leveling and prestige system I have dropped many more total hours into MW1/2 then any other game except WoW and CSS.

mhhh, but you are aware that the human brain demands tiny rewards every so often right? Its just good game design to cater to it imo, and nothing wrong in doing so.

but isnt it sad that the reward system they use gives it away with little effort? a lot of the unlocks and perks only require time and patience instead of skills as a gamer.

The reward system they USED to use - was making a great game.

Sorry no one can be as fantastic as you, clutchpro. If someone has a problem with perks or currency, there is still a "hardcore" fanbase still playing Unreal Tournament. But you know what? Those people have played that game so long and have gotten so good that its not any fun to play anymore. That's exactly what perks try to counter.

I've played just about every well-rated multiplayer game ever, and I can easily say MW2 is my favorite. CSS and Unreal Tournament 2000 are close to it, but my friends and I have a ridiculous amount of fun playing MW2. Really excited about Black Ops.

I totally agree with Jeryk. There sure is a ton of time spent adding stuff that I personally could care less about. But maybe they just can`t make games interesting like they used to.

Not to mention perks? Why pray tell would anyone reward someone for playing well, by giving them a cheat=perk, and allowing them to have said cheat=perk and join others who may not have the same cheat=perk?????

We call that a cheat=hack in my day. Cause no longer are you everyones equal, playing on equal footage. Learning to be a good player was its` own reward. But I guess there is no greater haxor than the 1s who actually create the games these days.

Maybe that is the underlying message for Devs. If they build in the cheats, Nanosuit comes to minds here, then they don`t gotta worry bout.... their game getting hacked. Cause why bother, with all the builtin haxing.

Fuck off I have a life, I have 30 minutes to spend, I don't want to have go to college to figure out the fucking bata system.
Give me someone in my cross hairs to send back to the start. Providing you don't have a dead player returns some to a kinda limbo where he/she can get a virtual haircut & spend money to change his/her virtual underpants to then re-join the game, but only having passed some kind of virtual test based on real basic training.

Still buying because of singleplayer/co op.
*sigh*

I remember the days when "competitive" multiplayer shooters weren't designed for people with ADD. We didn't need loot or leveling to keep us playing, we just needed deep and skill-based gameplay. It's sad that every multiplayer shooter these days feels the need to waste time with stupid reward systems when they should be spending time innovating and making deeper, more unique gameplay. I'm getting pretty tired of generic pseudo-realistic military shooters.

LOL, why don't game developers just come out of the closet already & say they are focusing most of their game development on the 12-15 year kid market - you know those people that shouldn't even be playing their games anyway?

Same netcode crap in BFBC2 (and similar games) - write it for console first (ie: the 100 ms lag between the console and hand held) and hopefully it will work on PC also...

Youtube is going to be full of videos with weapons decorated in Nazi Swastika's and Pedobear's.

Now watch this currency system be some sort of client side variable that can be easily hacked on the PC version.

I like all the customize stuff, that would be hard to see in normal gameplay but with that video editor I can see that being an awesome feature.

I like this currency system..and if you pause the video at 1:18 you can see the stuff you get to use.

Oh, and you also get to notice that they are playing on a console..which might explain why at 1:25, the player barely aims at the second enemy and yet still kills them? huge hitbox/autoaim assist or something odd like that or just lag? Or maybe low on health, because he did shoot him only once in the hip.

This game does look more interesting that MOH by far.
