There are better-looking console RPGs out there, including by the same company.

Too bad Bioware can't patch the game worth a damn. Half the content offered in the expansion still doesn't work or has game-breaking bugs. That was nearly 7 months ago and they've only offered one update that doesn't even fix anything. This "Ultimate Edition" won't include an update and will simply be a repackaging of the same broken game that is available today. Also, it will include several DLC (e.g. Warden's Keep) that have serious compatibility problems with the expansion. And the promo items found in the collector's edition or pre-order copies of the game also won't be included. This ranks up there with T-shirts and action figures (no joke) that Bioware is pushing to get as much money as they can out of this franchise.

Isn't that how it works in every RPG? You don't dodge magic using dexterity, you resist it using Wisdom or in the case of DAO, Magic.

D&D 4e magic is vs any defense - AC, reflexes, fortitude, will... so technically yes you can dodge alot of it

even earlier editions had magic vs AC.. which is derived from dex + armor

doesnt it seem obvious? you dont "resist" a fireball, you get the fuck out of the way

You're filth.

You're a console player and you even dare to complain about graphics. I laugh.
Playing: Skyrim, World of Warcraft.
Future: Dead Space 3.

As someone previous to me said, try this game on a PC. The graphics are actually quite good! PC version is the only way to play this game. The console ports are mere shadows of the PC version.

Played Thief at first and learned the hard way that with Thief, what they really mean is "cardbox cutout" as dexterity does not improve your ability to evade spells. Which is why mages are so horridly overpowered.

I bought the Digital Deluxe edition which included some DLC.

I enjoyed it enough to play it twice, but I did not enjoy it enough to buy more DLC. I also won't buy DA:2 because of the forced character thing.

The only way I'd consider purchasing this, is if it's DRM free... as in... you don't fucking have to logon to Bioware (in-game) to load a fucking saved game that includes some DLC.

That shit outright pissed me off, and I'll never buy one of their games again that does that.
Get your games from GOG DAMMIT!

Maybe thats a good thing though - i mean DA2 being more like ME2 - Its clear they did not get the spell vs melee balance right in DA1 at all and unless they want to go the full 100 yards and literally CLONE the DnD 2.0 spellcaster system (which is quite complex actually) theres just no way they can balance it properly with the framework they have now.

Amen to that. I'm a huge RPG fan, loved BG2 but something wasn't quite right with DA.

They totally screwed up the mages - game is a cakewalk if you roll a Mage and use Wynne and/or Morrigan, the AoE just decimates everything. Compare that to BG2, where mages were much better balanced.

And with DA2 being more like ME2, I'm thoroughly dissapointed, I was hoping they'd build on DA1 to make it a more throrough and better balanced experience.

Yes Nah, you might have felt that way, but I didn't. I loved every flippin' moment of it. Especially Zevran.

Then again, when you pretty much force the player into playing as a Mage because the only two other Mages in the game don't play well together - and the only way to get anywhere in the early game at "Not Pussy" difficulty without getting constantly faceraped is to use two mages - I get a little pissed off.

Nope, other classes are viable too. I admit I played the mage option, but I've also played with warrior as well.

This is one of those games where I can appreciate it being a good game, but I don't particularly enjoy playing it. And I'm a big fan of RPGs. It wasn't horrible for me, but I feel I should have enjoyed it more.

It's kind of like music. I can hear a band and think that they're good at what they do, and I can understand why other people would like them, yet I don't particularly like them myself.

I got through the game (before the nerf patches) using a Rogue. It was hard, sure, but not impossible. Surviving the boss battles was very satisfying.

If it's DRM free I might buy it later on to have a solid disc copy of everything without activations. If it's just codes and shit like Borderlands though forget it.
