Out of the Blue

I'm very excited about the prospects of a Wing Commander rerelease, as WC remains an all-time favorite of mine. Of course it's been quite a while since I've played the original, so it's possible it will not be as wonderful as my romanticized recollection of being the scourge of the Kilrathi, but I will certainly report for duty on the Tiger's Claw and give it a good chance.

Wing Commander on the Sega CD had voices and awesome music!

WC1 & 2 are sprite based and probably won't hold up. But WC3 (The one with Mark Hamill) was 3D and pretty good. Fun combat and missions, and a decent story. I replayed it about 5 years ago, and it was still fun.

Uhh, didn't all of them come out for a console as well?

Edit: Actually I guess 2 was the only one that didn't:

1:MS-DOS, Amiga, Amiga CD32, Sega CD, Super NES, 3DO, FM Towns
2:MS-DOS
3:MS-DOS, 3DO, PlayStation, Mac OS
4:MS-DOS, Windows, Mac OS, PlayStation, PlayStation Network
Prophecy: Windows, Game Boy Advance

Edit2: I guess your comment could mean, since it has come out for consoles before why hasn't it been remade for current consoles?

Space combat games seem to have inexplicably died off as a genre.

I've seen the Rev before. Puts on a mighty good show.

And what Wing Commander re-release? Where was this posted? I like blowing up space kitties as much as the next guy.

You know what I was thinking?

December can't come fast enough so I can see Reverend Horton Heat on the 4th at First Ave in Minneapolis.

I loved Wing Commander, which was strange since I generally disliked flying games (and still do). But Wing Commander was different. I recall how PO'ed I was on one of the games when I used god mode and the game changed my call sign to 'Cheater'. Still, it was awesome to see the comms come across from Paladin to 'Cheater'.

Oh man! Anything WC would be friggen awesome. One of the best early on gaming experiences - a game that was far ahead of it's time.
