Six Gun Saga Revealed

Forgotten Lore, the blog of Cryptic Comet's Vic Davis, announces plans for Six Gun Saga, the next project from the one-man developer of Armageddon Empires and Solium Infernum (thanks Big Download via Rock, Paper, Shotgun). He describes a project that's been in on-and-off development for over two years, saying it was once planned as a Rogue-like game set in the old west before that idea was scrapped. He says the game is "hopefully" due in a couple of months, even though it is being worked on alongside a Solium Infernum expansion. Here's word on what to expect:

It will remind you of some games like Race For the Galaxy, Dominion and of course Poker and itís more than just a simple card game as itís got a small board for moving your ďpossesĒ around and going after your opponentís homesteadsÖand more importantly killing off their dudes which gives you victory points. Itís single player focused. You can play up to 3 other AIís. Youíll meet a lot of historical characters from the Old West. This all sounds like a jumble but Iíll start posting more about the mechanics. If you have played any of my previous games youíll find a lot that is familiar and hopefully that feeling that you canít always quite do what you want and a bunch of hard choices.

I found the interface to "Armageddon Empires" a bit too off-putting. I'm just not sufficiently keen on the genre to want to learn to deal with that. It's good to see a developer producing quality games (judging by reviews) for a niche audience, though.

A single-player-focussed western game has my attention, however. I'm not sure at this stage if it's going to be my kind of thing, but I'll certainly give the demo a shot.

Looking forward to it, as I love the previous games from Cryptic Comet.
