PC Championship Manager "On Hold"

The PC edition of Championship Manager is "on hold" reports Eurogamer, where they say Beautiful Game Studios is concerned about the decline in retail boxed sales, quoting studio boss Roy Meredith saying he "really, really couldn't say" when the PC edition would return. "We were fixated on one format; a format that was in decline in boxed copies. It didn't allow us any flexibility or agility: we weren't able to look in other directions because we had this behemoth of a PC game," he explains. "With the market shrinking it was quite a risky or dangerous situation to be in. So we took the decision to put the PC game on hold and build up our business in other areas."

This = We can't compete with Football Manager so we will move to greener pastures.
The thickness of your ignorance, it's like a fucking shield that repulses insight.

It might just be that your game was outshined by a strong competitor and it has nothing to do with PC sales figures.

Just sayin'.

You said it. Calling it Championship Manager does not make it Championship Manager.

It might be true that the PC gaming retail market is declining but if you take that at face value you are not seeing the whole picture. What is really going on is that consumers are transitioning in to different store fronts. Its not at all healthy to fixate on having just a retail only release when a good portion of consumers on the PC will likely want it through digital sources.

As much as I worry about Steam taking over the obvious solution for PC right now is what most publishers are doing, a strong digital release on Steam with retail packages linking to it as well.
