Valve Plans 3 "Big Surprises"

Valve is promising "at least" three "big surprises" over the next 12 months, reports Computer and Video Games based on an interview with Valve's Gabe Newell in the brand new print issue of PC Gamer UK. "I can guarantee you people are going to be surprised at stuff we do. That isn't going to stop any time soon. I'm just laughing because... people will be shocked again," Newell told PC Gamer. "We have three pretty big surprises in the next 12 months at least." Thanks joao.

so what exactly is "12 Months" in Valve Time? I havn't got my calculator handy, or a PH.d in chaotic math.

Let's just say that the human race will have gone post-physical by the time those 12 months are over.

I REALLY hope there's no mobile gaming bullshit.

(1)Duke Nukem Forever VS HL3 using (2)Steam Mobile on the new (3)Valve Phone is my thoughts.

1) Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to have a cameo in HL3!
2) Bruce WIllis is going to have a cameo in L4D3
3) Sylvester Stalone is going to write and direct the new action/drama CGI 3d movie from Valve!
I have a nifty blue line!

If by 'actually demoing it' you mean one developer showed a build to guys the magazine he worked for without telling any one else on the team then...

Ah ha! I'll totally bet money that HL3 and Black Mesa are 2 of the 3. I can picture Valve employees reading this with a sly grin and nodding their heads knowingly.

In late 2003, Valve hired Bram Cohen, the original inventor and developer of Bittorrent, to work on Steam, but he didn't stay with them long.

They gonna toss us a head of a fat woman, which will look at us with this half-crazed stare while screaming "GET READY FOR A BIG SURPRISE!"

And then its going to explode killing half the room.

-Steam is going drm free
-They will hire a dev who can develop a decent dowload/patching system
much like bittorrent where downloads are crc checked in chunks ensuring a valid dowload
- The new dev will implement a real patching/update system that does not require significant cache file deletes ( something many of the non steam tools are allready capable off )
- games will be updated in a separate folder, allowing the PAYING user
to keep playing said game whilst the new version is being updated.
- the ui will actually show and inform whats happening with downloads
and not indicate 100's of megs will finish in minutes on dialup.
- it will manage to login and not time out on dialup due to it itself
swamping the connecting

- steam will go green by implementing the above and wasting a minimal of the customers bandwidth and time which some of us HAVE to pay for out of OUR pocket for THEIR forced updates.

"steam" the environmentally unfriendly application.
