New Steam Client

Steam News has word on a new version of the Steam client that's now automatically available. Here's the change list.

  • Fix a bug where installing a game with a demo may not initial install all content with some left to download on first launch
  • Fix a bug with ISteamNetworking getting available packet size for Steamworks Partners
  • Steam Cloud improvements to support save games in more cases for Steamworks Partners
Windows: Fix a case where minidumping due to an error could deadlock the client on startup or shutdown
  • Windows: Fix a memory leak that could lead to too much memory used or a crash if you remained in a busy group chat for several days
  • Mac: Fix client errantly opening a script in a text editor at startup (rare bug)

The fullscreen game is still running fine, I just get pulled back to the desktop with the Steam update notice window getting focus. Yes, NVIDIA. Haven't updated the drivers in awhile, they're 196.21.

STILL NO FUCKING PROXY CONTROL ABILITY! GRRRRRR!

sorry about the caps. It is a pain trying to run this at work, I need to tunnel around the proxy. The irony is, im the network manager and happily give myself permission to do so *but* steam cannot use an authenticated proxy - it simply copies the proxy address from IE.
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Steam pulled me out of my fullscreen game to tell me about this update. It's done this with the previous two updates too. Seriously, wtf Valve. Is this happening to anyone else too? Running Windows 7 64-bit. I swear this didn't start happening until the last month or two...

Never had that happen. nVidia?

The game doesn't crash, it just minimizes?

Update is kinda wonky for me. I have no connection to friends or anything. Trying to sign in to add Dead Rising 2 to my wishlist is telling me incorrect login as well. Ugh

That has very little to do with the update. Valve is adding new servers, upgrading the older servers, and changing the location of many of them this week:
