Ships Ahoy - Mafia II

Mafia II is now available in North America, announces 2K Games, saying the open-world crime sequel is due on August 26 in Australia and August 27 internationally. Word is: "This pistol-packed period piece transports players to Empire Bay, a fully realized and immersive urban cityscape set in America during the 1940s and 1950s. The action unfolds with white-knuckled car chases, explosive gunplay, compelling characters and an engaging narrative set against a backdrop of meticulously detailed period environments that showcase the difference a decade can make in the evolution of music, fashion, advertising and automobiles." Those interested in sampling the game should check out the recently released playable demo.

Reviews for this game are less than stellar all across the board. I see a lot of 7s and 8s and even lower scores. Need to wait till tomorrow to hear what the community says about this game.

I don't think you should really go into details about that stuff. Especially not on a public forum.

You have to make sure to check out the PC reviews, not the console ones. I've noticed the PC reviews are higher scores than the console reviews.

Regardless I absolutely loved the demo and if the game is somewhat close to what Mafia 1 was with updated graphics and physics I am happy with my purchase.

No but you pretty much admitted that you've pirated the game. I don't think Blue's appreciate any kinds of discussion about that stuff. He usually removes posts regards to that. I've seen many shit show conversations in the past whenever piracy came up.

Ok here's a review of the first 5 chapters. Some spoilers but minimal.

You start off on the frontline of the italian resistance/usa in 43, in sicily. It's like a tutorial but gets you in the action quick.

Then you come back home and start off by going to your mother/sister and you realise that you have problems to solve. You get a few valuable contacts and you start making money by doing these tasks.

The cutscenes are all worth watching, you just do not skip them, they blend well, they are not boring, they are not too long.

The graphics are top notch, the details are impressive. The combat is really smooth and well polished.

I have played with a controller and keyboard/mouse on the pc. The controls are great no matter your preference. I prefer the controller to drive, and the mouse/keyboard for foot action/aiming.

The playboy collection is nice.

I found only one bug/glitch in 3 hours, it's when you stealth kill a sitting ennemy, theres some weird animation problem (x360). Other than that it felt like a movie.

9/10 , a must.

I'll bite:

So now you've had a pirated copy demo'd to you at your friends, and rushed out to support the product by pirating it yourself so you can give glowing praise and waive your aforementioned e-peen, are you NOW going to support the developer with your wallet?

I am hardly the whitest of white when I think back to my younger days, but it annoys me that you are exactly the small minority that is giving the PC scene such a bad rep. You clearly must have no intention of paying for any game, irrelevant of the games quality it seems ("9/10 a must"), so that age-old excuse flies out the window.

You can't even count yourself amongst Valves "unexpected customers" as I dont foresee you coughing up the goods to legalise your free "movie" experience.

Now go take your "HAW I PLAYED IT FIRST" pirate cool elsewhere, whilst I await for my preorder copy to arrive. K Thx.

You are blaming the wrong guy, i have lost my job twice in the past 4 years, been jobless for 40 weeks and counting...

Listen, i have a Digital Audio Workstation, i think i have one legit software in there.

With the ridiculous nerfing of pc games, you cant blame a pc gamer for trying out games before buying, they have been destroying the pc standard and tried to replace it with the casual scheme for too long.

You can pirate consoles even easier, it's just that kids don't know it and mommy buys the games for bday/xmas. Consoles are also more accessible.

I bet your iphone is not jailbreaked, or android phone not rooted.

You cant blame people for pirating , people have been trying to rip us off with cheap 3 hour worth of gameplay console ports since a decade.

I won't buy mafia 2, there is no multiplayer, or coop. Thats why i gave it 9/10 but hey, i live in the 21st century, mp/coop is a must for me or i do not buy. They have ruined the shock franchise because of this bullshit.

Here's my pc specs

Phenom II 550, not unlocked (need a cooler, the stock cooler is shit)
4 gig ram
Old 8800gts

I can run the game maxed out easily but ONLY if i use 24bit/48khz sound.

Forget 192khz/24 bit , it drains the cpu and sound is glitchy.

I'm going to disagree.
With major releases you have to know ahead of time if it's good or not. There are a billion reviews out there (say what you want about the numerical scores but almost all reviewers are honest about mechanics as well as their likes and dislikes.) On top of that you have a few billion messageboards, each with a few billion opinions.

It's rare for a game to negatively surprise me. My expectations tend to be set prior to purchase. It's easy enough to educate yourself about the purchase legitimately to avoid the stinkers and focus on what you really want to play.

The only games I can think of that I've purchased in the past three years and been underwhelmed by are Mass Effect (I just think I wasn't in the mood for a lengthy game at the time), Dead Space (although that could be because I was playing it on a 27" CRT and couldn't make anything out) and Gratuitous Space Battles (for $5 I figured I'd gamble.)

Comparing it to rooting an android phone is pretty much moronic, especially as that's entirely legal you dolt.

Still no excuse for stealing this game.

It's not, no. And my phone is paid for too, I didn't bother 5 fingering it.

The sense of entitlement here is amazing. That attitude is just as much of a problem as 3 hour games. Read fucking reviews like regular people do...
