Star Wars: The Old Republic Space Combat Trailer [Aug 18, 2010, 6:09 pm ET] – Share – Viewing Comments
The Star Wars: The Old Republic Website has a trailer showing off the space combat in BioWare's upcoming Star Wars MMORPG. The clip shows a variety of ships doing combat in a variety of asteroid formations, but doesn't do much to refute the recent report that this will be "tunnel shooter" combat.
Well... that only goes to illustrate how incredibly kickass a genuine X-Wing style Star Wars game *could* be.
Uh...I couldn't tell what the player was doing in these scenes exactly. Piloting the ship? Hitting the fire key? Do you put the mouse cursor over the targets and press fire?
The sense of movement seems good, things are big, I don't see a lot of control for the player though...pvp?

Oh well... there goes my hopes for a XvsT MMO...

Gameplay straight out of an SNES game from almost 18 years ago. Seriously, what the hell? The hilarious thing is that there are people on other forums saying "looks amazing can't wait". I can't figure out what they're even talking about. It looks amazing to move around in a one foot area with no freedom and pew pew pretty colors? How long until that wears off, 2 minutes tops assuming you have at least the mental capacity of a turtle?
Well that looks shit, putting what amounts to a simple minigame people try once and then get bored of in an MMO is a strange way to go about things. God help everyone who buys this if those aren't skippable, especially with those annoying combat voices, about a month after release you'll get a spate of people around the globe leaping off bridges with a cry of "Aaaaargh! Score one for the good guys!!!!!!".
It doesn't look all that great, but then again it isn't even available to test in Beta yet. I'm sure, like the rest of the game, it will improve as the game develops. It certainly looks to be 'on rails' as we've heard, but if the experience is still compelling, it shouldn't really be an issue.
In the end I will be comparing the games space combat to Star Wars Galaxies, which while arcady, was also very compelling and provided a great deal of extra content to the base game and let the players do what they wanted with their own ships, both combat and non-combat. So we shall see.

The trailer is pathetic. A silly arcade sequence does not belong in a MMO. The more I see of this game the more I am wondering where is all this money they are using going?
I am still waiting for what sort of end game they are going to have. What is with people, seems like the fools are lining up again to through their money at another loser.

I was expecting something horrific based on the comments here, but I thought that actually looked kind of cool.
Not that I wouldn't love XvT in this kind of scenario, but for what this game is trying to do this isn't bad at all.

I think it looks fun and I think you guys are way too demanding. The problem here is you don't want an MMO, you want a Xwing flight sim. You're measuring SW:TOR up to those standards. I want a Xwing flight sim just as much as you but you can't expect BioWare to shoehorn in a full blown flight sim into an MMO can you? That wouldn't be realistic. Besides we already saw what happened when that was tried with Jump to Lightspeed. That expansion was boring and not fun.

I think it's more that we don't want an MMO and X-Wing is just getting brought up because "gee whiz it's some space combat!"
I'd much prefer an actual KotOR3, myself. Never cared for X-Wing/TIE Fighter.

Don't think iv'e ever seen anybody who didn't like rogue squadron in some way or another, it's addictive as hell, would have been the perfect bolt on.
They realy nailed the formula down with 2 and 3 on the gamecube.
