Crysis 2 Trailer

A new Crysis 2 trailer takes a look at the Central Station level in Crytek 2, clearly based on Grand Central Station (do you have to license that name?). The clip features commentary from Crytek executive producer Nathan Camarillo and CEO Cevat Yerli, who call this encounter a pivotal story point in the game, and explain the various graphical and gameplay elements on display, showing how gameplay remains interactive, even during scripted sequences. The embedded version follows.

I still don't get the scripting hatred around here.
HL and HL2 were two of the most heavily scripted FPS games.
Incidentally they're also two of the best.

More console heavily scripted crap. Why play it? Why not just have someone play the game, make a movie of it and sell it at a theatre.

Exactly. I wouldn't mind so many games taking this path if there were more titles for "the rest of us". More emphasis on emergent gameplay and tactics, less painfully typical camp dialogue. Slow it down and create some tension and atmosphere. More emphasis on the little touches and details. Metro 2033 was chock full of little touches that, to me, really enhanced the experience beyond what its gameplay mechanics allowed.

As for Stalker 2, my jury's still out until we can learn more details. The cross-platform development news really killed my hopes, though :(.

Still don't think they've explained "choreographed sandbox" worth anything yet. How is it any different than, say, the numerous set-pieces in Half-Life 2? Why come up with a different term. It's either BS marketing or they have something cool going on that they have no idea how to present.
Yes, I'm aware that the awesomely-destructible environments are a Crystaple, but I'm seeing nothing new in any of their videos when they talk about "choreographed sandbox"...

Half-Life 2 is the epitome of boxed-in linear FPS. I imagine this is going to be far more sandboxy than that. Even though it's all crappy and scripted.

Also, total lols at the shitty console controller movement/aiming.

A tiny level with the heavy decision making of going to ammo box A or ammo box B isn't a "sandbox" experience.

ED-209 doesn't even move, he just stands there waiting for you to hit him with more rockets/c4.

The original DOOM had better AI and more "sandbox" gameplay than this.

I don't know about you guys, but I feel I have near zero control of the character in these kinds of games. I really prefer something like Stalker or Oblivion but they are so rare these days. The game developers think the gamers are fucking dumb as stumps. And guess what? They're right!

I really liked Crysis, and Crysis Warhead, but since those games there were some really awesome games released that pushed the envelope, like Bad Company2 or Just Cause 2 imo. Because of those games when I see the videos of Crysis 2 I just can't stop yawning. I am really not interested in this one. I will check it out when it arrives but there are games that just much more enjoyable to me than Crysis ever was.

It was great back in the day but just not anymore.

So not interested in fighting aliens. It was the worst thing about Crysis. And Far Cry (mutants).

So refreshing to see a trailer show off the game rather than the stupid cutscenes nobody cares about. I'll miss the island setting but Crysis 2 still looks awesome and not at all consoley.
