NVIDIA StarCraft II Trial

NVIDIA's nZone has details on the availability of a trial version of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty with select graphics cards. Here's word on the sample of Blizzard's RTS sequel: "For a limited time only, buy any qualifying NVIDIA® GeForce® graphics card and get a key code for a free trial of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, good for 7 hours of game time or 14 days from activation (whichever comes first)." Thanks Big Download.

Yeah...I was shopping for cards last week and I kept seeing NVIDIA cards that had offers that included Starcraft II. You had to get to the fine print to find out that it was a free trial. It was very irritating and I quickly lost the desire to even consider an upgrade.

This definitely should be a marketing 101 lesson. Anyone with the desire / skill set to upgrade their own video card likely does some research first. No computer enthusiast likes to be mislead. I'd even say it's a safe bet that someone who is considering an upgrade to one of the newer NVIDIA cards is already well aware of Starcraft II and has decided whether or not he/she wants it.

Where is the incentive here? A 10% discount is worth way more than a 7 hour trial.

You'd think with the peripheral market being down the past two years due to console ports being the majority of the market that they would want to entice people to buy instead of pawning off demo codes.

They only time you ever get a free game these days is when NewEgg is offering a game with a purchase. but yea NVidia has been sucking when it comes to giving away a free game. I dont recall seeing a free game with the purchase of a card since back when I got my Ti4600.

If you ask me Blizzards gotten a little to big for themselves when they cant even give these codes away for free.

Just wait, theres going to come a day when they start charging people to play their betas.

I haven't purchased it, yet! In fact, I wouldn't mind a trial key if anyone has some unneeded extras. My email is finglefold@gmail.com =)

I will buy it, just waiting a few more weeks. I dumped all my $$ into landscaping recently.

Blizzard should just giveaway the trial. Maybe give away 1000 a day on thier site, that would drive a ton of traffic, but still ensure that no one could sign up for 150 in a row just to play SC2.

This depresses me. I went to check out an indie game on steam today and there was no demo. I am now expected to even buy indie games based on screenshots?

Why am I supposed to be PLEASED to get 'the chance' to geta demo?
Demos are free marketing. You should do EVERYTHING you can to get people to try your demo.
assuming....
that the game is good.

Meanwhile, in sanity land, people with confidence in their product continue to host free demos for anyone to download anytime. sigh....

Last week I noticed Newegg offering SC2 trial codes w/ select Geforce cards and though it was a promo run by them. Now I know it's nVidia offering the deal.

FYI, Newegg is offering the trial codes with cards other than only the GTX 460. http://bit.ly/cbnyNS

The last free game I got with an Nvidia card was with the Evga 275gtx. When I registered it at there site I got a copy of Cryostasis for free. That was not an Nvidia promo it was Evga's. I think I played it for a whopping 15min and stored it on a hard drive. I still have UT99 that I got with my Voodoo3 back in the days when they gave away real games with cards. I also remember walking in the snow to school both ways up hill ... wow I must be old
