Battlefield 3 Announced

An invitation to beta test Battlefield 3 will be included in a Medal of Honor Limited Edition that will also include additional perks, announces Electronic Arts, the first overt confirmation of development of the next installment in DICE's military shooter series other than an offhand reference to investors by EA's John Pleasants and another comment by Fredrik Liliegren, co-founder and former CEO of DICE. EA Games and the Medal of Honor Website have a bit more on the BF3 beta offer, which for some reason is contingent on the launch of testing within twelve months of the release of Medal of Honor, currently scheduled for Oct. 12, 2010 in North America and Oct. 15 in Europe. Here is the stipulation: "Beta offer is contingent on Beta availability within 12 months of Medal of Honor release. Beta will be available for a limited time only and offer expires upon close of Beta events. Participation in Beta requires acceptance of Beta Agreement. Must be 18+. Xbox GOLD membership required for Xbox users. Check this site for further details when available."

In other words, they know exactly what we're concerned about but just don't care.

@tehORCApwnage I know exactly what PC players are concerned about, I don't think words will soothe them and I have no comment anyway.

From Demize's twitter. Take it as you will.

Caveman, even though you're a jackass, you say some pretty funny shit. This instance is not one of those times.
Also, you lose considerable points for putting the overly retarded "QQ" thing in your post.
I'm sure you will shed tears for your lost points.

As for BF3, I'd rather they'd not announced it, considering it's going to be multiplatform.
NOT because it's going to be a console port, but because it's going to be pretty much a combination of the same offerings we've got with BC2 and MOH. If it was PC exclusive, it would be an actual successor to BF2.
If I'm wrong about this, then I'll be very, very surprised.

Cue the PC nerds QQing about BF3 being multiplatform.

Do you deny that a game being designed for multiple platforms usually means it does not take full advantage of every platform?

I'd like see that answered too!

Being a long-time PC Battlefield fan, this announcement is not reassuring. I've long since stopped playing BC2. I'm playing BF2 and enjoying as much as ever with PR mod. If BF3 sounds like BC3 then I simply won't buy it.

DICE is really whoring out the FPS' aren't they? Shouldn't they put effort into making Medal of Honor a decent game instead of using it as a poor excuse to help market BF3?

BFBC2 on a larger scale + more weapons and attachment/perk choices + ded servers/mod tools and they'd be back on top for a good while... (though, yes, I do think BFBC2 > Modern Warfare)

Didn't notice this until now...Doesn't look good for the BF3 crowd. Most of what made BF2 great won't work on the 360....or at least DICE seems to think those features are a waste of time.(based on what we've seen from BFBC and BFBC2.)

The word Xbox was said which automatically means multiplatform and the Xbox simply does not have the capability to do 64 player, largescale maps with the Frostbite engine. It couldn't even manage 32 with moderate to small maps. As I said, the only hope is that they fork development of the PC and console versions but look at how that turned out for BC2. 32 players with medium to small maps, no SDK or map editor and so on.

Nothing has been said about the game other than the fact that it's been announced. No gameplay, no features, no release date, nothing. Nada.

Cue the totally justified nerds you mean. The Xbox can't handle large maps and player counts so the rest of us have to put up with "squad size" action which is strategically limiting and makes most maps play out like Call of Duty. We don't need every shooter to play the same. People are totally justified in complaining, multiplatform Battlefield 3 can only be backwards for the franchise unless they actually fork the teams and make two separate versions(which few companies do).

Hmmm BF3 & MoH are two TOTALLY different games & should stay that way. They might as well of said "Beta test Star Wars:TOR if you buy MoH". Unless they are going to make BF3 closer to MoH or Bad Company 2 & I really hope not....Lets keep the realism HIGH EA!

BF3 will be a console port with features cut back because "consoles can't handle large maps" etc.

EA is really desperate after the Medal of Honor MP beta fail by DICE.
