PC Warhammer 40k: Space Marine Announced

THQ announces that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is coming to Windows PCs after Relic's third-person shooter was originally announced only for consoles, saying we should expect the game for Windows, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 in early 2011. "The loyal PC audience is incredibly important to us here at Relic so we are delighted to be able to announce the PC version of the game," says Relic Entertainment General Manager Jonathan Dowdeswell. Adds Vice President of Global Brand Management Travis Plane: "Delivering great content the fans want to play is the key goal in the core games division at THQ so we are pulling out all of the stops to make this the best possible game for PC and console audiences alike." Here's word on the game: "Combining intense melee and ranged combat, Space Marine puts players into the boots of one of humanity’s elite soldiers, genetically engineered and equipped with state of the art weapons and armor. Players are dropped right into the action as they battle to defend an Imperial Forge World, from an invasion by the savage and brutal Orks, using the most devastating weaponry mankind has at its disposal."

Okay sourpuss, but even the laziest console port still looks and plays better on PC.

You obviously haven't played Saint's Row 2 on the PC.

Yeah, that, RE4 and Double Agent are like the holy trinity of exceptions.

What about GTA4 and Starwars: The Force Unleashed?

I agree. I'd buy every expansion they'd come out with for CoH. Wish they'd have a Pacific theatre expansion.

Looks like THQ is preparing slowly preparing the ground for its WH40K MMO. Hopefully this turns out to be a great game in its own right...

I wouldn't get too excited about this one, Relic has had some massive bug problems in their games lately. Its probably a better play to wait a few months and get something like this on sale or used (for the console.)

A traditional RPG where you play an Inquisitor like Eisenhorn. Gather companions, buy equipment, travel across exotic worlds, trying to get to the bottom of a mysterious cultist plot threatening the imperium of man.

Someone's been playing Dark Heresy?

I'd LOVE dark heresy, except that I've come to the conclusion that their mechanics system is f*cking broken beyond belief.

Ah, that sounds awesome. Too bad I never had any friends who were into PnP.... CRPGs only for me

Oh well.... my loss.

I need to go check the starcraft threads to see if you're jerking off over SC2 at all...

Because Starcraft was originally a warhammer 40k RTS, but they couldn't work out the IP licensing with Games Workshop, and decided to branch off. It's still a total ripoff though.

Terrans= Space Marines
Zerg= Tyranids
Protoss= Eldar

Come to think of it, 2/3 of all of Blizzard's success is a derivative of Games Workshop IP. The other 1/3 is a ripoff of Rogue and Nethack.

Always wanted to see depictions of society and life in the dystopian 40k universe instead of just focusing on epic battles and campaigns.

The Adeptus Astartes (commonly known as Space Marines, and colloquially as Angels of Death)

Failing basic 40k nerdery negates your nerd rage.

Hrm, that trailer actually looks pretty good, but as others have said:

1) That was an Ultra Marine, not Angel of Death. Cue my nerd rage!
2) Every time you make a Third person shooter instead of a FPS, another kitten dies, developers. Of course I can tolerate a really good TPS, so don't mess this up, please.
3) Please don't let this be a shitty console to pc port.

4)... Relic seems to be gradually narrowing their focus in their games, what's up with that?

Homeworld(Massive space based RTS) -> DoW 40k(Smaller scale RTS) -> Company of Heroes(Smaller scale RTS) -> DoW 40k II(very small scale RTS) -> 40k Space Marine (Third person shooter)

If they go much smaller it's going to get ridiculous.

EDIT: Hrm game info doesn't even call it a Third Person Shooter, but an Action RPG. Cue endless RPG definition debate here.

EDIT part 2: Oh yeah, please, NO GFWL bullshit, thanks!

Delivering great content the fans want to play is the key goal

It's still a console game. TPS is a console thing. Make it a FPS, or do a hybrid between FPS and TPS, like Fallout 3.
The most exercise some people get is jumping to conclusions.

I hate to nit pick (no I don't) but 10,000 years with virtually no technological progress is not "state of the art." End of my fluff comment.

True. True. And I am hoping that this game kicks ass. I'm a big fan of the WH40K universe.

Just that "Fire Warrior" left such a baaaaad taste in my mouth.
