EA Selling Ubisoft Stake

Electronic Arts is selling out some or all of the stake in Ubisoft it purchased in December 2004. According to Reuters, as of May 2010 EA owned a 14.8% stake in the French company, and while a Ubisoft spokesperson was unwilling to confirm whether EA was selling its entire interest in Ubisoft, they also say "a source close to Ubisoft" said Electronic Arts had given investment bank UBS a mandate to sell it all.

Posters here NEVER talk about their troubles with Ubisoft's DRM. All they do is talk about how they will never buy another Ubisoft game again.

If you can find me 1 post on the forums that mentions someone having problems with Ubi's DRM on Blues, please link it.
I'm pretty sure I recall some of the early blues news posts when that sub game came out, and there were days or weeks of outages of the DRM servers at ubisoft. There were blues posters posting about how they couldn't play the games they purchased.
It got so bad that ubisoft offered a free crappy game to the sub game owners

EA needs cash and they clearly aren't making money selling their own games, so they might as well cash in their stake in a company that is making money selling games

Just a FYI, both EA and Ubisoft haven't made money, hit profit, for the past couple of years, both companies have been deeply in the red.

As for Ubi's DRM, wait until your internet connection is gone and then try to play Assassin's Creed 2.

I used to be on the Ubihate wagon, but I jumped off when I bought Settlers 7 and I'm glad I did. Its a great game and I have had NO issues with the DRM whatsoever.

And if you saw this Blues article last week, You know they have so far made 93% more revenue than they did the same first quarter last year, mostly due to splinter cell, but the DRM has not hurt their bottom line.

haha...I guess html doesn't work here...o well...I'll leave it for looks lol.

Not really. Again at the end of the day, PC sales for Ubisoft are bread crumbs to the sales they have in the console market.

A toxic puddle maybe, but not a pool.

Yeah, every Ubisoft story on Blue's people talk about how their troubles are all the result of their DRM... it must be nice living in fantasy land where their PC ports are that big a part of their business.

For EA and Activision and Bethesda and THQ, it is.

Anyway, this sale is more than likely to mean financial troubles for EA since they haven't hit a profit for the past 2 years. It may also mean Ubisoft is losing value which could also be true since, like EA, it hasn't made a profit for the past couple of years.

Add to that the gaming market going down each month and this may signal the start of something nasty.

Well EA surely hasn't enough money free to take over Ubisoft, which was the initial idea behind this stake. So if you can't afford it, invest elsewhere.

Oh, Kotick - the way is free! Grab You-be-unfunny-soft.

This could also means EA is struggling financially and needs to dump stuff for which they own minority interest for fast cash. It is hard to tell in the world of stocks and finances. Confused

I agree: Even if Ubisoft doesn't die they have created a toxic pool of customers against them. I don't care: there are better ways to go about things, I will never purchase from the Ubisoft brand again.

Because Ubisoft is INSANE with DRM! Who really wants to own stock in that infected company?
