Bioware dev comment on their forum:

I'll say this to those who are all concerned about things being changed to reach a more massive audience. We already reached a massive audience with DA:O. It would be silly to make DA2 into something that the DA:O audience couldn't recognize.

I was seriously underwhelmed with DA, so I'll pass on this, at least till it hits the bargain bin.

I think DA was more like Icewind Dale than BG.

Yah, me too. I liked DA, but I didn't think it had anywhere near the depth of BG.

I'm not sure how you can interpret that as it getting the dialogue system similar to Mass Effect. I think what they're saying is that the cinematics/cutscenes will be as epically awesome as Mass Effect 2, or probably better.

Mass Effect received much acclaim for its "cinematic" dialogue. You select from a sparse amount of poorly paraphrased dialogue choices, and then watched as your character "cinematically" spoke them. Unfortunately, having a fully voiced player character inevitably results in fewer dialogue options with less chance to really shape your character's personality. Instead, options are filtered down to the extremes, ala Mass Effect where you you only have nice and jackass choices (with the occasional, completely useless neutral option). It's already been confirmed that you play as a predefined character in DA2 and you can only select gender.

This is a bad omen indeed.

Awesome news.

And yes if they do one thing right, please keep the sequel at least somewhat difficult. It was nice being challenged by a PC Game again for once.

It took me a while to get used to the game controls, but that wasn't exactly a bad thing. Unlike some people. I like it when a game challenges me and makes me learn stuff..shock.

Here's hoping they don't redesign the whole RPG from the ground up like they did with Mass Effect 2.

Protip: you don't HAVE to reinvent the wheel every time you make a sequel..especially if the original game was a hit. Fix bugs, improve graphics, refine a few things..that's ALL! Don't mess too much with a hit game..especially if it's supposed to be a trilogy.

The games difficulty was reduced quite a bit through patching but yes, it was difficult, especially random encounters because you didn't know what you were about to face.

But personally that difficulty was part of the fun for me. I had to manage each character more deftly, set up their AI to cover multiple situations, and play more tactically.

Will follow this with interest. I think DA was more like Icewind Dale than BG.
I'm going to risk ridicule here and confess how difficult I found the combat in DA, especially the random encounters. I don't mind trying again & again for the boss fights/story driven battles. But the random encounters had me so frustrated from beginning to end.
Maybe I'm crap at RPGs now, as over the years I'm slowly becoming less interested in them. Isn't it supposed to be the other way round?

an all-new adventure in an all new realm. And that realm will be portrayed in an entirely new, Samurai Jack-like visual style with updated graphics.

wait, what? so the new DA look is a stylized cartoon with 10 colors and simplistic artwork?

Think like a general and fight like a Spartan with dynamic new combat mechanics that put you right in the heart of battle whether you are a mage, rogue, or warrior.

Concerned. By "dynamic," do they mean you have full control over every attack like in an action game? If so, that won't work too well with the whole party-system.

Since EA is behind it now from the beginning, I wouldn't be surprised...

Go deeper into the world of Dragon Age with an entirely new cinematic experience that grabs hold of you from the beginning and never lets go.

Yikes. Please don't tell me they're going the Mass Effect route and giving you fewer, vaguely paraphrased dialogue options that you hope represent what you actually want to say.

I'm not sure how you can interpret that as it getting the dialogue system similar to Mass Effect. I think what they're saying is that the cinematics/cutscenes will be as epically awesome as Mass Effect 2, or probably better.
Playing: Skyrim, World of Warcraft.
Future: Dead Space 3.
