NVIDIA 3D Vision Surround

NVIDIA unveils 3D Vision Surround, a competitor to ATI's Eyefinity multi-monitor dealie offering a combination of multi-monitor support and 3d stereoscopic technology. The system supports three monitors in 3D using a multi-GPU setup and NVIDIA says they have software to automatically convert over 425 games to stereoscopic 3D without the need for special game patches. The system requires Windows 7 and an SLI motherboard (unless you are using a GTX 295 GPU), the full System Requirements are here. There are preview write-ups of how this all comes together on AnandTech, ExtremeTech, [H]ard-OCP, Hardware Canucks, PC Perspective, and Tom's Hardware.

More significant than the 3d is the surround vision thing IMHO. Now they are matching eyefinity from ati. (so for instance you can do 3 monitors together).

I wonder where I can go to get a demo of this 3d tech in action. I live in North Carolina. The CONs are always located in California sigh...

Its not the same thing, but best buy has some of the new 3d TVs in action at thier stores if you stop by and want to see the 3d TV stuff in action. They aren't shutter glasses though like the nvidia thing.

The nvidia stuff REQUIRES a "3D Vision-Ready" 120Hz HD LCD monitor to use 3d, plus a $200 set of shutter glasses.

So you are talking a number of thousands of dollars to get this working. Thats why I think the 3d thing is kinda silly. But I do like the idea of the surround multi monitor thing.

Edit:

There's the list of displays that are compatible.

Looks like a 23" acer 3d LCD is under $400 (according to amazon). So it may not be quite as expensive as I thought. But I'm still not that interested in 3d yet for PC.
