Jane's Advanced Strike Fighters

A Jane's Advanced Strike Fighters Website is online, with info and media about an upcoming modern combat flight simulator in the works at Trickstar Games, the developer recently formed from the remnants of Transmission Games (Heroes of the Pacific, Heroes Over Europe). Word is the game will take place in a large-scale fictional battlefield, offer a diverse array of fighters, and 16-player multiplayer and a full co-op campaign for 2-4 players. The game is coming to PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, and while they do not seem to offer a release date on the site, Big Download says the game is due this summer.

A Jane's game? How long has it been since the last Jane's game? USAF? Holy crap. This doesn't look much like a Jane's game - is that a chase cam in that screenshot?!

It doesn't even look that good, even to compare it to Ace Combat 5 that blows it away! The ugly terrain, limited terrain geometry (you can count the number of trees?!) and shitty 90 degree field of view almost..

A Janes Longbow III would be nice. But I really doubt that Janes even exists anymore. Milk the name time I guess.

This game looks like a sacrilege to the original games that bore the Jane's name.

Sure, the screenshots are pretty but the video was a let down. Air superiority fighters doing ground pounding missions? Right, because that's clearly the best use of that asset.

Where's the Phantom flying low and fast, laughing at the SAMs, doing Wild Weasel duty?

Including the word "console" automatically rules out the use of the word "simulation". They are mutually exclusive of one another.

Though, I'd love to see a remake of Strike Commander done. That would own.

Oh man, I actually saw PC gaming renewed when I read this title... But then I saw "Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3".
If this is gonna be a real flight sim, I'm Bill Gates...
I really wonder how they got the IP. Yeah money, but how desperate can Jane's be...
I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

I was also let down by the video preview. I was hoping this game was the spiritual successor to the EA/Jane's games from 10 (?) years ago.
US Navy Fighters, Advanced Tactical fighters, Fighters Anthology.

I LOVED those games. Used to run a website called "Fighters Anthology Mission eXchange."

I thought those games had a good blend of fun and complexity to them. Would love to see a graphical update to them, if nothing else.

*sigh* just watched the preview and saw the screenshots. it looks like ace combat. i hope they make the pc version more like a proper flight sim instead of 3rd person arcade shooter. would be nice to pit the f-22 against the t-50.

Last time I had a Jane's combat simulation it came with an inch thick manual on how to operate the instrumentation and weapons systems.

yeah i remember the large manuals for flight sims. the biggest one i ever had was for the su-27 flanker sim of eagle dynamics. almost letter sized spiral bound book. but the best documentation had to be for the f-16 falcon sim by microprose. it was a nice 3-ring binder with hard cover artwork complete with keyboard mapping sheet and a foldout map of the korean peninsula. i still have it!

The graphics look nice, but how can they get away with calling that a Jane's combat simulation? Third person console crap is what it is. Last time I had a Jane's combat simulation it came with an inch thick manual on how to operate the instrumentation and weapons systems.

My eyes got big until I saw the screenshots along with various consoles tag. Janes is back..but they're doing shitty console shooters? For fucks sakes.
Thank god for Digital Combat Simulations.

When we were 'kids' we loved simulations and we knew the difference between shooters and something which requires more 'effort' but it seems now, kids are absolutely devoid of such powers of concentration or..what is it?!?

A flight combat game with sufficient fidelity or at least verisimilitude deserving the Jane's brand, that also accommodates consoles?

I'll check out the reviews when it goes gold, but I'm not optimistic.

A new, and well done, Jane's would be nice. I think the last I played was 97 and the Anthology, but had a blast with them back then.
