Portal 2 Surprise Planned

Valve announces the cancellation of an E3 event for Portal 2, saying the event has been replaced by a surprise, which will come at some undisclosed future moment (not covered by the definition of Valve Time). Word is:
Aperture Science is pleased to inform you that we have partnered with Valve to announce the gala CANCELLATION of the June 14 Portal 2 event at the Regal Theater. The event will be replaced by a surprise. And even though the cancellation of the event certainly counts as a surprise, we are pleased to further announce that the cancellation of the event is not THE surprise. However, per International treaties regarding the definition of the word "surprise", of which both Aperture Science and Valve are signatories, the time, date and content of the actual surprise will only become available as you experience the surprise.

If you'd like to ask fruitless questions about the E3 Portal 2 surprise or, more fruitfully, schedule an appointment to attend a Portal 2 screening at the Valve booth during E3, please contact Valve's Special Envoy to Surprises, Doug Lombardi.

Thank you for <<RECORD SCRATCH!!!>>

PS: The surprising record scratch is also not the surprise.

If the big surprise involes Gabe Newell jumping out of a cake in speedos yelling "SURPRISE!", heads will roll.

Clearly the surprise is that Portal 2 will initially only be made available as part of the as yet unreleased Black Box, which is to include Half-Life 2: Episode 3, Portal 2, and Left 4 Dead 3: The Midnight Ride.

Now that *would* be a surprise.

At this point I don't think it's HL2:Ep3 but rather HL3. And maybe that's the surprise.

I hope it's something like that. It occurred to me that this Fall it will have been 6 years since Half-Life 2 was released. It was also 6 years between Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2. So much for quick, episodic releases, huh? At least Valve seems to have gotten their scheduling act together, with their last few projects shipping on time.

It's going to be Half Life 3 with a with the gun from Portal in it (and some Portal bonus levels)!

Finally, they're going to announce the sequel to their best-loved game of all time. Ladies and gentlemen, gird thy loins for... RICOCHET 2!

But yeah, it's totally HL(ep?)3. And seeing as the Orange Box was Valve's huge blockbuster product, I'd be surprised if they didn't do something similar. Portal 2 has had some teases, but it's been almost three years since Ep2 came out with no word, so it's time to crank up the marketing in plans for a November release. At this point, though, barring Sam & Max episodic gaming is dead. Now we've got casual, DLC, and indies all taking a different chunk of that pie, and there's not a lot of crumbs left.

They didn't hide the surprise that well. Facts guiding to the solution:

1. Mac Steam Client and Games.
2. Hype-Announcements which confuse than rather inform, just as Apple does.

So the surprise is: Apple takes over Valve!
Steam will be integrated into iTunes. No adult rated games anymore ... and oh, no games based on flash.
