OnLive Free Period Extended

OnLive is extending the free period it is giving pre-registered customers to a full year, rather than the three months originally planned. This offer is reported by Big Download as still being open through June 3, but from the looks of the OnLive Pre-Register Page, this offer is now closed. The service is scheduled to go live during E3 on June 17.

First of all, it's patently false that you need to upgrade every year to play games on the PC. Maybe 6 years ago that was true but most modern games are multiplatform and run on very light machines. Second, the people who don't want to upgrade their machines "every year" buy consoles, not OnLive. Finally, this product has almost no advantages over other gaming platforms yet it introduces several points of potential failure in playable experiences for the consumer. It is a worthless technology. I could maybe see this being a decent product for travelers if hotel bandwidth wasn't so shitty.
