Very much enjoying RDR. It's the closest we'll ever get to Outlaws 2

Meh. Feels like a completely diff game. All of the GTA's are pretty similar. This is actually a lot more enjoyable than GTA4 - I enjoyed that game thoroughly. And am playing it again, now on PC.

Don't be daft, it IS GTAIV: Wild West.

The pacing, dialog/cutscenes, combat mechanics/movement, mission layout are pure and simple GTAIV. The horses certainly control a lot better than GTAIV cars, though, but at the expense of me not being able to jump hundred-foot chasms at breakneck speed

Maybe Rockstar hid a Cheetah in a garage somewhere...

Yea, anyone who thinks it is GTA has not played it - or is half tarded.....seriously.

There is a ton more to do and the story is top notch.

I am on the fence about RDR -- from the gameplay videos it sorta looks like a re-do of GTA 4.

It only felt like that the first 10 minutes. Personally I was drawn in very quickly and forgot all about it's GTA-ness.

Oh look! A bitter, useless poster! If you ever contributed anything worthwhile I would fall out of my chair, go back to the gamefaqs forums.

Interested to know that as well....I also do not like the auto pick.

I was doing well at duels, now I am sucking...any pointers?

You get the third level of Dead-Eye fairly shortly after you get the second. The progression on that stuff is bizarre.

Just walk up to the bartender and buy booze, it takes about 5 shots before you push yourself away from the bar and start weeble wobbling away. Btw don't get drunk and try to walk upstairs to your room I sorta face planted on the first landing and couldn't get up for a min or 2.

I got caught by the law last night and spent 15 minutes in jail for murder. In the context of videogames I was fairly impressed by the punishment.

And while it doesn't tell you, do all of Bonnie's missions first (the tutorial) and you'll get all the weapons (including lasso).

Is there a way to shut off the middle version of Dead Eye when it starts picking your shots? I hear there are three versions of Dead Eye in the game.

I played GTA4 on the 360 and now I'm playing RDR on the PS3. I can't really see what they are complaining about. The RDR cut scenes to me look worse than the in-game play. And it was that way on the 360 with GTA4. But I'm not a graphics whore. I mainly care about the game-play.

I've played about twelve hours now. Half on my slim PS3 on a 28" Hanns-G 1080p LCD and the rest of the time was spent play on the older fat 80gb PS3 using a 50" Panasonic 1080p Plasma. It looks good on both but the plasma takes the prize. Runs smooth and looks fine on both my PS3s.

My friend plans on getting a second copy so he can play the Co-Op and multi-player with his son on the 360. I'm curious to see what he says.

As far as the horse running speed... it just takes a tap of the button to spur the horse every three or four seconds to keep it at max speeds. I think the horse riding is very well done. In fact at times if you're going to save some of those strangers in trouble ride up on them at full speed with your weapon drawn hit Dead Eye and pick out your targets.

My biggest complaint is the Dead Eye version that picks the shot for you. Once it starts pick the shots and placing the Xs on it's own I'm finding it less enjoyable. Is there a way to shut off the middle version of Dead Eye when it starts picking your shots? I hear there are three versions of Dead Eye in the game.

I am 12 hours into the game, and I think 2-3 hours of that has been playing Liar's Dice and Poker. Good times man...good times.

I thought Bonnie's missions were fine. How many cattle did you guys save? I thought for sure I would get them all, but only saved 14/21.

I was helping the sheriff on a mission and fell off of the damn cliff. I survived, but then had to find a way back to the posse. Luckily I fell in just the right spot and followed them from a different angle. That would have sucked - it was a long boring ride.

The hardest random mission I have encountered is the people on the side of the road that are being murdered on their knees. You have to be super fast to either NOT DIE or let them die. I think they have killed me 4-5 times now. I accidentally rode up on them more than once. ugh.

If I have both systems, why would I want the inferior version?

I admit there is a range of "nearly identical," but if one is obviously better than the other, I would rather get the better one.

Playing across all four systems, there can be some fairly significant differences between releases (to say nothing of the times where one version is drastically inferior.)
Or do you primarily play on the Wii?

Also agree on the horse riding, but it's not terrible...just a little clunky.

I think I kept the guy alive on the first sheriff mission by shooting him in the leg. Didn't seem very significant but I don't recall the rewards.

I think I got honor points and more money for bringing him in alive.

Have you figured out to get drunk yet? When I go to the bar keep in a saloon theres no option to buy booze or anything. I really want to get my guy tanked and have him try to duel people.

When you walk up to the bartender a "Buy a drink" prompt should appear at the bottom right. Think it's the A button.

IMO they should've copied how Star Control 2 did this back in 1992. They were on the right track with the first Mass Effect. They should've built on that instead of replacing it with something so boring and tedious.
Yeah, I remember having a lot of fun with the SC2 planet landings. That would have been vastly more entertaining than the ME2 mini-game, which sometimes caused me to wish I was at work instead.
