Does anyone honestly think Valve did this to circumvent paying dues to Remedy/Rockstar?
Somebody just got lazy is all. For all we know all old games offered on Steam (prior to Steam becoming a mainstream service games are explicitly designed to support) are simply cracked versions. |

Meanwhile Myth was a PC ripping group, and I can't find any record of them (or anyone else) doing a rip of MP2. Myth and Deviance were actually the same group. Myth just did rips of Deviance ISO releases. So, they had the same cracking tools. |

Damn...
Shit's gonna hit the fan now...Does this mean that the gaming industry will have to embrace piracy groups much like the IT security industry welcomed 'hackers' with open arms?
Ironic indeed...

So, does this make everyone who downloads this version a pirate? I can't wait for the outcries from random publishers about this.

MYTH/DEViANCE
Plus the big MYTH in ASCII art that the poster at the steam forums described. |

This doesn't make much sense. As far as regular cracks are concerned, both the retail release and the 1.01 patch were cracked by Deviance. Meanwhile Myth was a PC ripping group, and I can't find any record of them (or anyone else) doing a rip of MP2.
In short, it's basically impossible for this to be a stolen Myth executable - Myth never touched the game. |

That's cool. I'm downloading my copy of Max Payne 2 on Steam right now so I can then disable automatic updates for it and preserve this little piece of irony. |
