Dragon Age: Origins DLC Announced

BioWare announces Dragon Age: Origins Darkspawn Chronicles, a new DLC pack to be released on May 18 for Windows and Xbox 360 for BioWare's role-playing game, and at some future date for the PlayStation 3. The DLC will provide the chance to play as one of the game's bad guys in exchange for 400 Microsoft points/400 BioWare points. Here are a couple of screenshots and here's word: "The Darkspawn Chronicles offers players a look at an alternate history in the Dragon Age universe. Darkspawn Chronicles begins as your character dies during the Joining ceremony, and the Grey Wardens now march under Alistair's command. As a hurlock vanguard, you alone hold the power to make thralls of their fellow darkspawn and drive them into the heat of battle as Denerim burns! This adventure gives you command of genlocks, hurlocks, shrieks, and even the mighty ogres."

I do think that Awakening was overpriced. DAO cost $50 MSRP and offered 100 hours of gameplay. Awakening cost $40 and offered 20 hours max. It was an enjoyable (although way too easy) 20 hours but when you compare the content/cost ratio, it wasn't a good deal. Luckily, I bought it for $20 when the EA Store was offering their 50% off deal. $20 was a far more reasonable price.

How is 15 hours of gameplay worth $40 when the original game was $60 for easily 35+? I played through Awakening and felt like I got ripped off despite loving the original game. Awakening was full of bugs and was far too short for a $40 expansion.

Ehm, weren't you posting a month ago that people should stop whining about 15 hours of gameplay for 40 bucks, since most games give you 5 hours for 60?

And now you're on the other side of the fence?

Because most games today charge $60 for 7-10 hours of content?

Hey, they charged $7 for a 35 minute ME2 DLC so that's a steal as far as BioWare is concerned.
And that's with to-deplection scanning. The gameplay is probably 25 minutes.

I like the story idea quite a bit. But the proof will be in the execution.

Yep, I agree. Although I get the feeling it will be very short on content.

Just finished the Awakening campaign, excellent all around. Really worth the money IMO.

I never even got through one playthrough. I avoided any dlc because

a) I am rather frugal and
b) I heard that the items you get in them are too powerful and break the game.

I consider having a place to stash your goods so that you can have your party lean and mean when out and about to be an intrinsic part of any RPG, and thus was offended on a very deep level to learn that in order to get a stash I must give them extra money on top of the original purchase.

So I am out in the world of Dragon Age, encumbered with loot I did not want to have on my person but also did not want to lose and I started to seethe in resentment of the game.

Words cannot express how much this bothered me.

Dragon Age had a very weird effect on me.

I loved the game to the core, the ending got me emotional etc. But then.. I tried to replay it and it was in exactly the replayability wherein I realized that the only thing that kept me going in the first place was the development of the story.

I never finished my replay(s).

Now, when I think of Dragon Age, I nearly get a feeling of getting sick. I therefore wasn't interested in any of the DLC's or the expansion.

A weird effect indeed.

No. Because they do not want you to buy games for the price they are offered, but they want you to buy virtual currency in pre-defined blocks, so you have to spend MORE money than the actual cost of the game you want to buy. And the money left, you can only spend on this closed plattform, but all virtual prices are calculated in a way, that you are always forced to spend MORE than you want to actually buy.

And what are the companies doing with this extra money you gave them? They are investing it, making some interest, some financial investements. Its very profitable

For fucks sake, what the fuck is a Bioware point? Can't they just sell this stuff for real money. I'm sick of these bullshit currencies so my own real currency is staying in my bank account thanks.

Sad. I hate how the ogres looked in this game anyway. And on May 18th I'll be playing RDR anyway and so will everyone else.
