Battle.net Facebook Integration

Blizzard announces that Facebook has accepted Battle.net's friend request, which will allow Facebook users to enhance the social experience of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, saying players will be able "to quickly add Blizzard gamers who are friends on Facebook to their Battle.net friend lists." Word is: "Information about other Facebook-related features on Battle.net will be announced at a later date."

I don't use Facebook myself, but I'm sure people who do will like this. Nice idea.

I agree that there is a lot of crap on Facebook. However, I find it to be a good communication and contact management tool. I keep a minimal profile that is limited to real friends and business associates. Some of these friends are gamers, so I welcome the idea of Battle.net and Facebook integration for easier match-ups.

True. But we CAN also choose to dislike anything related to Facebook & Co too. I prefer the negative approach.

It's a solid idea. You may have friends on facebook that have nicknames on Bnet you're unaware of, so all it does is make it easier to game with friends and acquaintances. I'm actually curious to see this live.

I don't understand the hate for Facebook. It really does make it easier to keep tabs on friends. Don't be hatin', be appreciatin!

I have to agree that I wouldn't be averse to seeing China blocked from the net over here.

Chainsaw Chihuahua: It doesn't work as what one might expect.

I disabled most of everything in my privacy settings, and shit still shows up in cnn.com, yelp.com, pandora.com, etc.

No you can’t, but it’s the fact that you are providing information, these guys will take any piece of info they can get to hack your account. i have a few guildies whose accounts got hacked, then they try to lock your account down with Blizzards own authenticators to keep you from logging into it while they rape your chars blind. What needs to happen so all your items don’t get sold off is let the user decide if he wants to make an item non sellable. Lv 80 chars don’t make money from gear, so locking down gear so it cant be sold off will lessen the impact of items being sold for gold when your hacked.

Blizzard needs to start banning IP ranges from China and put an end to this crap once and for all.

Odd how back in the days of Diablo1, SC1 and Diablo2 we could live without facebook intruding on everything. Odd how that even in the days of yon, before such wonderous things as multi core processors we could run IRC and IM clients (ICQ/AIM) in the background to talk with friends and setup games. In fact it was required quite often when battle.net was hosed due to lag (and its oh so great ISP, ATT).

But I'm just an old crank now, a "pirate" who wants to steal games not someone who has been playing blizzard games for over a decade now. One who knows from experience that they cannot handle the lag issues and therefore I might want to play non mmo games outside of their precious battle.net whilst online.

God, enough of this Facebook shit. I now can't read CNN, read reviews on Yelp, nor listen to music on Pandora without being bombarded with shit from Facebook. Now, it's Battle.net, so this shit's going to be popping up windows and whatever else for me to add friends from Facebook on Battle.net. No thanks. I can't wait for the next social network to come around.

I wouldn't be surprised if they released a facebook app that lets you interact with your battle.net friends and view achievements and such - why bother creating a stand-alone client for just 2 games that nobody wants to be running in the background, when you can just leverage an existing social network?

Brilliant. I was wondering how they'll do a stand-alone battle.net client but they don't even have to if they go with Facebook. Brilliant and... cheap.

@Valtyr - Because video games are about as serious as medical records...

@elefunk - Yeah! Going to be neat!

@Paketep - If you don't have a Facebook profile then you need not worry about such things.

@Darks - FFS you can't hack someone's account by adding Facebook friends to your Battle.net Friend's list!

Nice, lets make it even easier for the Chinese scammers to get your info so they can hack your account even more.
