Eschalon: Book II Next Month

Basilisk Games announces May 12, 2010 as the release date for Eschalon: Book II for Windows, while the Mac OS X and Linux editions of the indie RPG sequel will follow on May 26. "We are very excited to finally be able to announce the release dates to our second game, Eschalon: Book II, after more than two years of development," says lead developer Thomas Riegsecker. "Eschalon: Book II is considerably bigger and better than the first game, and incorporates over 60 fan-suggested enhancements." There's a recent trailer on the YouTube, and here's a bit on the game: "Eschalon: Book II is the sequel to 2007's hit independent role-playing game, Eschalon: Book I. Continue your journey across massive outdoor environments and deep into twisted dungeons as you seek to uncover the mystery of your past and who is behind the menace that threatens all of Eschalon. No experience with the first game is needed to enjoy this second chapter in the Eschalon trilogy."

Is there any way to move without holding down a mouse button in this?

Not sure but maybe there's a utility that can let you bind that to a key?

Is there any way to move without holding down a mouse button in this? I tried the demo for Book I and having to hold down the mouse all the time was extremely annoying.

Book II is a must have for me. Indie roleplaying at its best. @kxmode: man, this sounds really good to me!! I haven't played a true scifi RPG since the Buck Rogers series from the early 90's LOL.

I've been looking forward to this one for ages, I put 40+ hours into book 1 with 2 play-through's and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Kxmode:
Hi. I was wondering how viable would an old school sci-fi RPG be? I love fantasy themed RPGs but I think it would be awesome to play a sci-fi inspired RPG. And not sci-fi like Fallout... I mean true sci-fi.

BasiliskWrangler [Basilisk Admin]:
I guess we'll be finding out.... Wink

Jinx:
I'm intrigued BasiliskWrangler... how will we be finding out? Is there something in the works in parallel to Book 2?

BasiliskWrangler [Basilisk Admin]:
No, I meant we'll all find out together.

We have another engine (it's true 3D, but mechanically it functions like an advanced Dungeon Master / Eye of the Beholder first-person engine) that we've been working with for quite some time. We have a storyline, some game mechanics in place, and even a title logo. It will be hard-line sci-fi (meaning no magic or voodoo like "the force", although it will feature fringe science). It will not be post-apocalyptic. We are drawing inspiration from an existing "old-school" sci-fi RPG from way back.

That is absolutely all I will say, other than we are considering taking a break between Book II and III to finish this game that I speak of. For now though, we are all about Book II!!

Needless to say they let slip a pretty important direction their company is going after Eschalon: Book II. Just thought you Basilisk fans might like that.

I had fun with the first one for a couple weeks but never finished it. Strangely enough I could describe Mass Effect and Oblivion the same way, so I guess it compares reasonably well to the modern faux-rpgs.

Any good this game? How does it compare with other more modern or classic RPGs??
I have a nifty blue line!
