I dislike that it makes me take more clicks to do many common tasks.
The small/quick view of games I switched constantly back and forth from now takes 2 clicks since its in a view menu, instead of 1 click on a button.
They removed buttons on the bottom so now its 2 clicks to get to servers/settings/support etc instead of 1.
They removed the general news headlines entirely from front page (and no, the subset at bottom isn't the general news headlines). That was the thing I always checked first even before sales. Now that takes 2 clicks to get headlines, instead of 0 clicks by seeing it on default front page.
Oh and whats up with that new steam friends msg sound effect? It sounds like the soundcard went into a broken loop. Its like someone is bored and pushing a windows ding button over and over again because they are bored.
What was wrong with the old sound? It wasn't great but it didn't sound like crap like this one does.
Basically: valve redesigned UI, and held to a certain vision of it to the exclusion of all other concerns and comments, and didn't bother to listen to much of the beta comments, and didn't seem to bother to hire UI effieciency experts (come on you bragged you had 20 million steam accounts and you spent a bunch of millions on L4D ads, but no money to hire a couple consultants?), and didn't seem to bother to check logs of what common tasks people do and how to improve the efficieny of them, and in fact didn't even bother to see the general tech trend towards more quick buttons and instead moved towards the past instead of future in UI and moved tasks from buttons into menus instead.
A very common failing thats ever increasing in valve games, the underlying games are great, its the UI that doesn't get much attention from valve. If they'd just stand out of the way and let me play I'd be happy. Instead they insist on putting more and more hurdles into the way when I want to play.
