I had an opportunity to mess around with some of this at PAX East this last weekend, and yeah, the bezels are a problem. 3x1 is pretty sweet, but 3x2 puts that horizontal bezel right in the center of vision, and I think does more harm than good. The most impressive use of this I saw was a demo of Need for Speed: Shift that used 3 projectors to give an ultra wide, seamless picture. To top that off, it was running in 3d. The cockpit view was really impressive in 3d. The steering wheel was obviously closer than the dash, and the scenery through the windshield was obviously further away. Not perfect yet, but getting pretty damn cool.

My 1080p Projector and a 160" pull-down screen is still a cheaper solution. If you have the room for them it's the best solution.

I agree.

But I've often been told around here that consoles are inferior because a 52" HDTV is too low a resolution (amongst other reasons.)

When you're 8 feet away it doesn't matter.
Right up next to it I can see a reason to care.

3x1 gaming is pretty damn sweet.
Not unmarketable. If you buy a $5,000 alienware or Falcon Northwest, which plenty of people still do, throwing in 3 lcd monitors isn't really much of a cost jump and what better way is there to brag about spending so much cash on your hobby?

It isn't meant for everyone. It's meant for the extreme. Like the new Nvidia chips. Or the 5970. Or the 6 core i7.

There comes a point where the resolution makes no difference, anything upwards of 50 inches is not going to make a change in what your eyes see when you are running 1920x1080.

Heck if your going to just watch TV buying a 1080P 32inch is pointless because you wont see the difference at that size. With computers 720P is a low resolution, but 1080p is pretty high, and you are hitting diminishing returns as you go higher.

Sure the obvious benefit is that computer monitors can enter the 2000-3000 range of resolution but unless your watching on a 100inch screen, what difference does it make? Only a purest would care about something like that, and the way I see it, its just not marketable.

Um okay...it would be cheaper and more effective to just buy an equivalent sized 1080P TV and play with the same screen area without all that hassle.

Each of these monitors is running the same resolution as a 1080P tv.
So, for people that think PCs are better than consoles because of resolution, this is amazing.

Bezels are an issue. The method of having bezels hide pixels, rather than having jumps, makes sense, but the hidden text is an issue.

From what I understand every demo has been very positive, and people completely forget the bezels are there. At least in 3x1, where you have all your main information unbroken and the bezels are in your peripheral vision. 3x2 puts a bezel smack in the middle, which seems unhappy. Definitely the right term.

Holy shit, if I lived in NYC I'd be going ballistic over that consultancy scandal. Class action suits to follow I'm sure.

Multiple monitors don't make much sense for gaming when HDTV's work as computer monitors and actually cost a lot less then them as you go up in size.
